Thirty two players took to the course for Tuesday’s mixed Stableford competition, with the winner reigning golfer of the year Mark Warren, who scored 41 points from his 10 handicap.

Runner-up was Tynan Perry, who scored 39 points, while the nearest the pins went the way of Glenn Palmer on the 2nd and Tynan Perry on the 11th.

Thursday’s competition was a mixed par event, with the A grade winner Justin Thompson having a great score of +3 from his 11 handicap, while runner up Paul Bethune finished square. The best score of the day belonged to Beverly Park Golf Club visitor Patricia Wilson, who had a fantastic score of +5 from her 20 handicap, while runner up Rob Merrett had +3. Mick Burns had a handy score of +2 to claim honours in C grade, ahead of Norman Honer with +1, while the nearest the pins went to Patricia Wilson (2nd), Ken Gregory (5th), Barry Lacey (11th) and Greg Waybury (15th).

Almost 100 players took to the course for the April monthly medal on Saturday, with Kobus Visser firing a round of net 68 from his 23 handicap, with his score proving good enough to claim the April medal on a countback.

The A grade winner was Brenton Gurnett, who had a fine round of net 70 from his eight handicap, while Paul Bethune came in second place with 72 net on countback. The B grade winner was Coady Gorringe who tied the best score of the day with net 68, while Roger Walker came in second position with 72 net.

The C grade competition saw James Beard’s round of 71 net prove good enough to hold off Northern Golf Club visitor Ben Guminski’s score of 70 net, while the nearest the pin’s went to Paul Raudino (2nd), Paul Bethune (5th), Daniel Cruickshank (11th) and Bailey Codling (15th).

Sunday’s par competition saw strong scoring throughout both grades, with the A grade winner Bradley Cockfield having a great round of +5 from his 15 handicap, ahead of runner up Robert Foster, who had +4 from his six handicap. The B grade winner Allan Spencer also had a great round of +5 to win on a countback from Christopher Knee, who also had +5. The nearest the pins were won by Lleyton McLean (2nd), Malcolm Talbot (5th and 11th) and Mark Warren (15th).MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

Thirty three teed off in the annual qualifying round of the Golfer on the Murray event on Wednesday.

Paula Pickert and Sarah Clark were the best combination in the Ambrose in pairs format, scoring 69.25 to win by one-and-a-half shots from Janette Tucker and Suzanne Napier. These two pairs will represent Murray Downs at the final of the event at the Barham Golf Club in June.

Di Martin and Maryanne-Anne Davis (71 net) were third on a count back from Rhonda Barrow and Carolyn Zambelli, who led the ball pool, with the next best being Sally Fearn and Cheryl Delmenico and Lisa Brady and Deb Quin. Paula Pickert, Judi Lonergan, Georgina Douglas and Janette Tucker hit the most accurate shots to the par 3’s to win the nearest the pins.

Threatening rain reduced Saturday’s field, with new golfer Tamika Hogan (43) scoring 39 points to win ahead of the Spitty sisters, Mabel (15) 35 points and Sadie (45) 33 points.

Claris Bourne (29) square led a small field on Sunday, with Dione Heppell and Anne Webb (27) both 1 down collecting balls.

Entry forms for the club championships are now available from the Pro Shop, with this year the first that competitors can choose to play the three rounds on a Sunday or Wednesday. This is all part of the Golf Australia guidelines to include all female golfers in prestigious events that have been historically played during the week.LAKESIDE

The weather was perfect for the season opening of Wednesday golf at Lakeside this week. The stableford winner was Deanne Free with 35 points, ahead of runner-up Jean Youl with 32 points. The ball run down went to Sue Notting and Lois Heil, with the nearest the pins won by Marg Learmonth (3rd), Mandy Male (7th and 18th) and Sue Notting (12th). Thank you to all our sponsors.NYAH WEST

The Nyah West Golf Club held their opening day last Sunday, with an ambrose event to get the 2024 season underway. The winners were the team of Bev Beasy, Allister Pretty, John Manser and Max Carroll with a net score of 59.875, just beating Ron Thouliss, Graham Muir, Leigh Paynter and Michael Watson who scored a net 60.125.

The nearest the pins were won by Ron Thouliss (Goodyear Autocare 2nd), Leigh Paynter (Nyah West Pharmacy 12th and Nutrien Ag 15th) and Max Carroll (Rutherford Street Tyres 16th),with nobody claiming the Country Tracks 4WD eagles nest.

This Sunday will be a stroke event and will coincide with the first of the season’s monthly medals. All golfers are encouraged to attend, regardless of whether you are a member or not, as we welcome everybody to join in and enjoy the game.
