The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S

This week’s Tuesday competition was a mixed par event, and although it was a small field, the scoring was still exceptionally strong.

Around 90 players took to the course for Thursday’s mixed Stableford event, with A grade winner Craig Fletcher having a steady round of 37 points from his handicap of nine. Ross Hassting scored 36 points and finished as runner up on countback.

The best score of the day belonged to B grade winner Barry Lacey, who finished with a very impressive score of 41 points from his handicap of 17, with Gerard Moloney (38 points) coming in second position.

The C grade winner was Greg Kiemann, who scored 38 points, with Michael Pickert having a steady score of 37 points and finishing second on countback.

The D grade winner of the day was Ritchie Merritt with a handy score of 37 points from his 31 handicap, with Richard Johnston finishing second with 33 points via countback.

The nearest the pins went the way of Samuel Rovere (2nd), Ian Read (5th), Mark Warren (11th) and Justin Thompson (15th).

The winner of this week’s Friday 9-hole competition was Horsham Golf Club visitor Patrick Smith, who scored 20 points from his handicap of 41.

Saturday’s competition was a Stableford event, and the A grade winner and best score of the day was Mitchell Croft, who had a nice round of 38 points. This was good enough to win on a countback ahead of Brenton Cruickshank, who also had 38 points.

The B grade winner was Jason Stevens, who had a very steady round of 36 points from his handicap of 13, while West Lakes Golf Club visitor Stuart Gearing finished second with 35 points on a countback.

The C grade scoring tapered off a bit, with the winner Chris Grant scoring 34 points, while Lance Stobus finished second with 32 points on countback, while in the D grade competition, Sebastian Parsegian was our winner with 35 points ahead of Andrew Guy with 34 points on countback.

The nearest the pins were won by Mitchell Croft (2nd), Samuel Rovere (5th), Ross Hastings (11th) and Francois Dunn (15th).

Sunday was again another Stableford event, with the A grade winner Luke Rodgers, who had a solid round of 35 points from his handicap of two, to win on a countback ahead of Royal Adelaide Golf Club visitor Luke Johnston, who also had 35 points.

Sebastian Parsegian found himself in the winners’ circle for the second day in a row, this time claiming honours in the B grade competition with 39 points, ahead of Campbell Kennon, who finished second with 38 points.

The C grade competition was a battle between two Horsham Golf Club visitors, with Patrick Smiths (38 points) good enough to get the win ahead of Tom Hardman with 36 points. The nearest the pins were won by Craig Davies (2nd), Cayle McLean (5th), Leigh Evans (11th) and David Kennedy (15th).

This week also saw the first round of our winter pennant competition begin, with Murray Downs taking on the Deniliquin Golf Club at Barham.

In a mixed day for the club, our division 1 team came away 4/1 winners, while division 2 lost 3/2 and division 3 also lost 4/1. Although the overall scores didn’t go our way in the second and third division, the matches were much closer than the scorelines suggested. This weekend we take on the Barham Golf Club at Rich River. Good luck to all players.
