MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

THE Spitty sisters, Olive and Mabel, have proved that they are a force to be reckoned with in competitions at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

Mabel, 11, scored a handicap smashing score of 66 net from her 15 handicap to take out the May monthly medal on Wednesday.

Her scratch score of 81 included one birdie and eight pars, with her only blemish being a double bogey on the par 4 17th. The nearest the pins on the 2nd and 11th holes also added to her bounty.

Olive, 15, plays off a handicap of two and returned a scratch score of 73, which included four birdies and 10 pars, but on this occasion only returned her a ball in the ball pool, although she did collect the nearest the pin prize on the 5th.

The runner-up in A Grade was Lynne Bishop (11) with 69. Lynne spends lots of time on the practice fairway, which is showing in her game as she slowly prunes shots off her handicap.

Jenny Lynas (30) and Rosie Ficarra (24) both scored 73 net to win the B Grade vouchers, with the C Grade competition going to Gaye Legudi (31) with 73 and Cheryl Delmenico (51) with 75.

Rhonda Barrow 70 net led the ball pool, with Maree Thurwood, Lois Carnie and Margaret Moore all on 72 the next best. The remaining nearest the pin went to Clare Nalder-Martin.

Lynne Bishop birdied the par 5, 12th hole to clean out the birdies nest and also won the putting competition with 30 putts.

The event was also the first round of the 2024 championships, with Olive Spitty 73, Lynne Bishop 80 and Mabel Spitty 81 leading the A Grade competition.

In the B Grade, Rhonda Barrow 90, Marg Moore 91 and Sarah Clark 95 are leading, while Jenny Lynas, Pam Blohm and Barb Cadd are all on 103 in the C Grade competition, while Tamika Hogan and Cathy Darby are on 111, with Kathy Brennan 113 next best in D Grade.
