MURRAY DOWNS MEN

FORTY players took the course for Tuesday’s medley Stableford competition, with Noah Starrs taking out the A Grade honours with a score of 38 points from his handicap of three, while fellow youngster Tynan Perry finished second with 37 points.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Sebastian Parseghian with 38 points on a countback ahead of Ethan Coe, who also had 38 points.

The nearest the pins were won by Darryl Domaille (2nd), Dale Smith (5th) and Leigh Paynter (11th and 15th).

Thursday was also a medley Stableford competition this week, with Stuart Holt taking out the A Grade division with 39 points from his handicap of 13, while Noah Starrs continued his strong form to finish as the runner-up with 37 points.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Peter Amezdroz, who had a fantastic round of 41 points from his 39 handicap, while Strathfield Golf Club visitor John Elter finished as runner-up with 37 points.

The nearest the pins were won by Luke Rodgers (2nd), Brett Farlie (5th), Laurie Shipsides (11th) and Luke Rodgers (15th).

Ninety players tackled the course on Saturday for the men’s par event, with Jorgen Leschke finishing as the winner in A Grade with a superb score of +4 from his handicap of eight, while Brenton Cruickshank came home second with -1.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Allen Woolstencroft with a fantastic score of +5 from his 15 handicap, while Steve Bulmer was the runner-up with a score of +4.

C Grade had to be decided by a countback, with Josh Gadsden’s +1 prevailing ahead of Justin Toomey, who also had +1, while Damian Mangiameli had a good day out, scoring +2 to take the win in D Grade ahead of Anthony Carrol, who finished on square for the day.

The nearest the pins were won by John Pertzel (2nd), Stefan Mangiameli (5th), Gerard Moloney (11th) and Fred Fletcher (15th).

Strong numbers continued on Sunday’s medley Stableford competition, with Keith Meagher having a good day on the course to record 38 points and take out the A Grade competition ahead of Noah Starrs, who finished runner-up with 37 points on a countback.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Kade Benfield, who finished with a great round of 39 points from his handicap of 22, while Darwin Golf Club visitor Mitch Grant finished runner-up with 38 points.

The nearest the pins were won by Margaret Moore (2nd), Shane Ingram (5th), Terry McEwan (11th) and Luke Rodgers (15th).


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

FORTY-five women competed in the Stableford event at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, with numbers being somewhat depleted by the absence of the grey nomads and the onset of the usual winter bugs.

Jenny Monahan was the star of the day, scoring 40 points from her handicap of 31, with Lisa Brady (26) 37 finishing one point clear of Claris Bourne (31) 36 points in division 2.

while Sally Fearn, Kerry Gammon and Melita Sartori all scored 36 points to lead the ball pool.

Judy McMahon was rewarded for two accurate shots to the par 3’s to claim two nearest the pins, with the others going to Suzanne McLellan and Georgina Douglas.

On Saturday, Lisa Brady (26) +1 and Claris Bourne (31) -2 were the winners, with balls going to Dione Heppell, Nadine Cox, Deb Watson, Kerry Gammon and Maralyn Morrison.

Dione Heppell also claimed two of the nearest the pin prizes.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

DAD’S Army plays nine holes on a Monday and Wednesday at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

On Monday, July 15, nine players took part in very cold conditions, with some very good scores recorded considering.

Barry Ingram came home with the best score of the day with 19 points and was followed by Gavin Scown and Ian Dickson on 17 points.

On Wednesday, July 17, to cap off the week and playing for the major prize, there were joint winners on the day with Rob Smith and Damian Kelly both finishing on 19 points.

They were followed by Barry Ingram on 18 points, with the weekly winner being Barry Ingram with a combined score of 37 points to take out the highly valued major prize of a mystery can of fruit.


LAKESIDE LADIES

WEDNESDAY’S competition saw the ladies playing in cool conditions with the sun occasionally peeking through.

Jean Youl (17) finished with 32 points to lead the field ahead of Tricia Witney (31) with 28 points and Sue Notting (25) with 27 points.

The nearest the pins was a two-way affair, with Sue closest on the 3rd hole and Heil’s 12th hole and Jean closest on the Bakers Delight 7th hole (which included a birdie) and Joan’s 18th.


NYAH WEST

A SMALL field of members contested the Monthly Medal stroke event, with Leigh Paynter (9) victorious after scoring 82 and finishing well ahead of Dennis Pretty (9) on 94.

The nearest the pins went to Dennis Pretty on the Goodyear Autocare 2nd hole, Leigh Paynter on both the Nyah West Pharmacy 12th hole and the Rutherford Street Tyres 16th hole and Graham Muir on the Nutrien Ag 15th hole, with another ball added to the Country Tracks 4WD Swan Hill eagles nest.

The junior golf development program will continue Sunday from 9.30am, with all children invited to participate.
