The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

THERE were 34 women who competed in the par event at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday.

Judy McMahon (27) was the star of the day with a score of five up to win Division 1, with Maralyn Morrison (27) only one behind taking out the runner-up prize.

In Division 2, Kath Brennan (35) finished on two up, with Claris Bourne (30) finishing on one down to be the runner-up.

Lois Carnie (18) was two up and led the ball pool ahead of Michelle Holt (25), who was square, with Bev Holt and Nonie Domaille the next best with one down.

Marg Moore, Judy McMahon, Jo Williams and Maryann Mathiske were the nearest-the-pin winners.

Strong winds greeted Saturday’s intrepid competitors, with Maralyn Morrison (28) scoring 36 points to win from Sue Davis (26) and Nadine Cox (30), who both finished with 34 points.

New golfer Maria Noble-Hayes was rewarded with a nearest-the-pin prize, as were Margaret Moore and Claris Bourne.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday, eight members of Dad’s Army played the back nine at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

The best score was recorded by Ian Dickson with 23 points and was followed by Damian Kelly and Kevin Maddy on 19 points, and Barry Bishop on 18 points.

On Wednesday, 10 members played the front nine, with Ian Dickson backing up Monday’s score with 20 points to finish equal with Gavin Scown, followed by Graeme Bray on 19 points and Damian Kelly on 17 points.

The weekly winner, with a combined score of 43 points, was Ian Dickson, with Damian Kelly 36 points and Graeme Bray 33 points finishing second and third.


LALBERT

THE Lalbert Golf Club’s 2024 annual tournament commenced last Friday with a three-person Ambrose, any-combination event.

In trying conditions, 75 golfers participated and made up 25 teams, with the scratch winners coming from the team of Luke, Graham and Kale with a score of 64, the trio winning on a countback in front of Doug, James and Deeny, who also took out the handicap event with a net 59.7 score.

The first runner-up was Deanne, Kelvin and Braydon with a net 60.4 score, with the second runner-up being Brad, ‘Parso’ and Adam on 61.7.

The ladies’ longest drive was won by Dakota Meehan, the men’s longest drive was won by Nathan Kugel, while the nearest the pins were won by Deanne Free and Matt Lenton on the sixth, and Deeny and Kale McClean on the eighth.

On Sunday, an 18-hole stroke event was held in far better conditions than the two previous days, with 28 players participating.

In the men’s A Grade scratch event, the winner was Andrew Parsons on 77, with ‘Parso’ winning on a countback in front of Brad Kelly.

The handicap winner was Colin Wilkie who finished with a net 73 score, while the runner-up was Leigh Paynter with a net 74 score on a countback ahead of second runner-up James Meehan Jnr, from Nathan Free and John Brougham.

In the men’s B Grade competition, the scratch winner was Richard White on 82, ahead of Dave Doolan on 87.

The handicap winner was Stuart McGregor with a net 71 score on a countback from runner-up Max Parsons, with David Williams finishing as the second runner-up after scoring a net 72.

The ladies’ scratch winner was Karen McKissack on 89 ahead of Jean on Youl 98, with Jean taking out the handicap event with a net 82 score and Sarah Young finishing as the runner-up with a net 84 score.

The longest drive was won by Sarah Young in the ladies’ event, with James Meehan Jnr winning the men’s.

The nearest the pins were won by Karen McKissack and Max Parsons on the sixth, and Jean Youl and Lee O’Meara on the eighth.

LAKESIDE LADIES

THERE was a great turn-up for our Stableford event this week, with Deanne Free (25) finishing with 36 points to win in front of Jean Youl (17) on 33 points.

The ball run down was won by Mandy Male with 32 points and Mandy Ackland with 27 points, while the nearest the pins were won by Mandy Male (3rd), the Bakers Delight 7th and 18th Jean, and the HEC 12th hole Sue Notting.


NYAH WEST

STABLEFORD was the game of the day last Sunday, with Gary Farley leading the field home on 35 points, with Thelma Watson close behind on 34 points and Allister Pretty on 33 points.

The nearest the pins went to Gary Farley on the Goodyear Autocare 2nd hole and the Nutrien Ag 15th hole, John Manser on the Nyah West Pharmacy 12th hole, and Allister Pretty on the Rutherford Street Tyres 16th hole, with another ball landing in the Country Tracks 4WD Swan Hill eagles nest.

The junior golf development program will continue this Sunday at 9.30am, with all children invited to participate.
