MURRAY DOWNS MEN

TUESDAY’S competition was a medley Stableford event this week, with Tony Ford continuing his red-hot form, winning A Grade with 38 points on a countback from Graeme Mathiske, who also had 38 points.

Ken Veale won B Grade on 36 points, ahead of Tony Wilson on 33 points. The nearest the pins were won by Bruce Wilson (2nd) and Robert Hinton (11th).

A solid field of about 60 players took on the course for Thursday’s medley par competition, with Dale Smith winning A Grade with a handy score of +2 from his 13 handicap, while Bob Burns came in second with +1 on a countback.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Greg Weybury with +3 from his 23 handicap, while Bruce Wilson came in second with +2.

A score of -2 or better was good enough to get you in the ball run down, with the nearest the pins going to Mark Warren (2nd), Chris Joyce (5th), Tori Ficarra (11th) and Jonothan Hirst (15th).

Saturday was the August edition of our monthly medal competition, with the winner of this month’s event being Andrew Guy with a fantastic score of 65 net from his 24 handicap.

Mark Warren took out A Grade with 68 net, ahead of Noah Starrs with 70 net.

The ever-reliable Ross Kenyon won B Grade with 72 net, one stroke ahead of Colin Mewburn with 73 net, while the C Grade winner was Paul Goodson who had a great score of 69 net to finish two strokes ahead of Geoffrey Frame with 71 net.

A score of 73 net or better was good enough to win a ball, with the nearest the pins going to Gregory Armsden (2nd), Mark Warren (5th), John Pertzel (11th) and Noah Starrs (15th).

Sunday was a medley par competition this week, with the best score of the day belonging to Keith Meagher, who absolutely blitzed the field with a superb score of +7 from his 10 handicap to win A Grade, while Brenton Cruickshank came in second with +3.

Max Thompson took out B Grade with +2, while Claris Bourne came in second with +1 on a countback.

The nearest the pins were won by Stuart Patterson (2nd), Daniel Delmenico (5th) and Keith Meagher (11th).


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

JAN Butcher is the recipient of the August Monthly Medal at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.

Competing against 48 other contestants in benign conditions, Jan scored 69 net from her 27 handicap to win her second medal in two years, with the runner-up in A Grade being Michelle Holt (23) 71 net.

In B Grade, relatively new golfer Tracy Hooper was only one shot off the pace, scoring 70 net from her 43 handicap, with Bev West (38) runner-up with 74 net.

Carol Wiseman led the ball rundown with 73 net and also won the prize for the least putts with 31, while Eileen Morath and Cassie Barnett, both 74 net, were next best in the ball pool which went down to 78 net.

Marg Moore, Tamika Hogan and Jenny Monahan were the nearest the pin winners.

Saturday’s Stableford winner was Michelle Holt (23) 35 points from Marg Moore (21) 34 points on a countback from Joan Foster and Maryann Mathiske, with Jenice Krahnert taking out two nearest the pins.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday, August 5, members of Dad’s Army played the back nine, with the best score and the day’s winner being Kevin Maddy on 21 points.

The runner-up was Richard Johnson on 20 points, followed by Rob Smith on 18 Points and Ian Dickson on 17 points.

On Wednesday, August 7, members played the front nine, with the winner being Barry Ingram on 19 points, from Rob Smith 18 points, Andy Miller 17 points, Kevin Maddy and Barry Bishop on 16 points.

The weekly winner, with the combined score, was Kevin Maddy on 37 points from Rob Smith on 36 points and Richard Johnson on 34 points.


LALBERT

ON Sunday, August 4, a Stableford event was held, with the best score and winner on the day being one of the club’s younger members, Caitlin McKissack on 36 points, from Damian Kelly 34 points, while tied on 33 points were Karen McKissack and Lee O’Meara.

The nine-hole junior winner was Jed O’ Meara on 77, with no nearest-the-pin winner.

The club was represented at the Nyah West Golf Club Annual Tournament over the weekend.


LAKESIDE

A BEAUTIFUL day for golf at Lakeside brought some very good scores, with the winner being Mandy Ackland (24) 41 points, ahead of runner-up Jean Youl (17) on 38 points.

The ball rundown went to Mandy Male on 33 points and Deanne Free on 30 points

The nearest the pins were won by Jean (3rd and Bakers Delight 7th), Mandy Male (HEC 12th) and Mandy Ackland (18th).

Thursday we are holding our Linen & Lace 4BBB in pairs tournament, 10am assembly for a 10.30am tee off.

NYAH WEST

LAST weekend’s very successful Annual Tournament drew visiting players from Murrabit, Manangatang, Lalbert, Tooleybuc, Lakeside, Lake Boga, Murray Downs and Yarrawonga.

Saturday’s event was mixed Pinehurst and the scratch winners were Chris Page and Sheena Gadsden, while the handicap winners were John Manser and Mary Robinson with Neville Page and Thelma Watson runners-up.

Sunday was the men’s 4BBB Stableford with Michael Watson and Chris Grant winning A Division with 45 points, on a countback from Richard White and Gavin Lloyd, with John Manser and Bobby O’Bree on 44 points.

In B Division, the winners were Clive Williams and Robert Nield with 50 points, again on a countback from Scott Worner and Peter Harley, with Dave Doolan and Stuart McGregor next best on 49 points.

The junior golf development program returns this Sunday, with the children asked to arrive for a 10am tee-off.
