MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S

Tuesday’s competition was a medley par event, with the best score of the day belonging to A grade winner Ross Hastings, with a score of +1 from his 10 handicap.

The runner-up to Ross was Bruce Wilson who was square with the card, while -4 or better received a ball in the rundown, with the nearest the pin going to Darryl Domaille (2nd) and Michael Stephenson (11th).

Thursday was a medley stableford competition, with the best score of the day belonging to A grade winner Rod Proctor, who scored 36 points to win on a countback ahead of Dale Smith, who also finished with 36 points.

Chris Grant took out the honours in the B grade with 35 points and was one clear of Tommy Wilkins with 34 points, while 32 points or better was good enough to receive a ball in the run down.

The nearest the pins were won by Alexander Spooner (2nd), Ken Gregory (5th), Paul Bethune (11th) and Robert West (15th).

Plenty of golfers took to the course to make the most of the fantastic weather on Saturday, with the best score of the day belonging to A grade winner Jack Comelissen with a great round of 40 points from his handicap of 12, with Ken Gregory finishing second with 35 points.

Brian Elliot took out the B grade competition with 39 points from his handicap of 14 and finished two points clear of Graeme Mathiske, who finished second with 37 points.

The C grade winner was Mitch Grant, who also had a great score of 40 points from his 27 handicap, with Jayden Boehm finishing as runner up with 38 points on a countback.

Thirty one points or better was required to receive a ball, while the nearest the pin’s were won by Mitchell Croft (2nd), Bailey Bowd (5th), Daniel Cruickshank (11th) and Brenton Cruickshank (15th).


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

Forty four women enjoyed spring like conditions at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, with Virginia Allen (25) and Melita Sartori (38) both scoring 38 stableford points to win both Division 1 and Division 2 respectively, with the runners’ up prizes going to Rosie Ficarra (24) with 37 points and Kerry Gammon (35) with 35 points.

Jan Butcher, Jude Simmonds and Lois Carnie all scored 34 points to lead the ball pool, while Gaye Legudi, Lois Tippett, Jenny Ford and Jude Simmonds were rewarded for accurate shots on the par threes.

Gaye Legudi (30) scored 38 points to win the major prize on Saturday by the barest of margins from Carol Wiseman (28), with Claris Bourne the next best with 34 points, while Lynne Bishop and Jill Bath both collected the nearest the pin prizes.

All members are advised that the Murray Downs management have installed defibrillators in the toilets on the course.

Let’s hope they don’t ever have to be used, but it is a great to know that they are readily available.

An information session on how to use them will be held in the near future.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

On Monday, August 12, the Dad’s Army members played the back-nine, with four players coming in with 18 points.

Gordon Parsons, Rob Smith, Ian Dickson and Barry Bishop all finished on top and were followed by Graeme Bray on 17 points and Ross Cox on 16 points.

On Wednesday, August 14, members played the front-nine, with the best score returned by Barry Bishop with 23 points, ahead of Andy Millar on 20 points, Graeme Bray on 17 points and Gordon Parsons on 16 points.

The weekly winner, with a combined score of 41 points, was Barry Bishop, with Gordon Parsons and Graeme Bray equal on 34 points.


LALBERT

On Sunday, August 11, the Lalbert Golf Club held a stableford event.

The winner was Scott Worner with 37 points, on a countback from his son Chayse, followed by James Meehan Snr. on 32 points.NYAH WEST

One of the club’s newest members, Shane Channon, excelled on his commencing handicap of 36 to win the stableford event last Sunday, scoring 42 points and also collecting the Monthly Medal, with Allister Pretty (21) runner up via countback from John Manser (9), with the pair both finishing on 39 points, with Graham Muir (31) and Bryan Rogers (21) next best on 38 points.

The nearest the pins went to Shane Channon on the Goodyear Autocare 2nd hole, while John Manser made a clean sweep of the Nyah West Pharmacy 12th hole, the Nutrien Ag Solutions 15th hole and the Rutherford Street Tyres 16th hole.

The Country Tracks 4WD Swan Hill eagles nest was the recipient of another ball.

A very successful junior golf development program was held last Sunday morning and will continue again this Sunday, returning to the 9.30am start time.


VETERANS

The NDVGA Sandscrape Championships were held at Murrabit Golf Club on Tuesday, August 13.

In the ladies section, the new champion is Eileen Willox with a score of 34 points, while second was Jean Youl with 33 points.

Marg Learmonth was the winner in the ball pool with 32 points.

The new champion for the men is Robert Male, who scored 38 points, with Lindsay Schultz finishing runner up on a count back with 37 points, ahead of Rick Austerberry.

Others in the ball pool were G.Wyte and J.Manser on 35 points, with the winners of the recently added pen award for low scores for both the ladies and men went to the Bray’s, Lorraine and Greame, who both had 24 points.

Nearest the pins went to D. Atkin, E. Willox, M. Moore, B. Spicer, G. Brierley and F. O’Bryan.

Next month it’s off to Tooleybuc on Tuesday, September 10.
