MURRAY DOWNS MEN
A SMALL group gathered for medley par play on Tuesday, with Tony Miceli taking out the A Grade competition with +3 from his 18 handicap, Glenn Palmer finishing runner-up with +1.
Mitchell Ulhorn claimed the B Grade honours with +3 from his handicap of 26, while Ethan Coe finished second with -4.
The nearest the pins were both won by Raymond Power (2nd and 11th).
Good numbers took to the course for Thursday’s medley Stableford event, with Luke Rodgers finding the going easy, recording 39 points from his scratch handicap to claim the A Grade competition ahead of Bob Burns with 38 points.
The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Steven Kerr, with a fantastic round of 42 points from his 17 handicap, while Richard Johnson finished second with 40 points.
A score of 33 points or better was required to receive a ball in the rundown, while the nearest the pins were won by Tony Miceli (2nd), Glenn Palmer (11th) and Justin Thompson (15th).
The ordinary weather on Saturday didn’t stop players from hitting the links, Daniel Cruickshank claiming the honours in A Grade with 34 points by countback, ahead of Ken Gregory. The B Grade winner was Troy Gniteki, who made the most of the morning conditions by carding 38 points from his 16 handicap, while Bob Burns finished runner-up with 37 points.
The best score of the day belonged to C Grade winner Darryl Domaille, who returned a great round of 38 points to take out the win, one point clear of Richard Johnson, who finished second with 37 points on a countback.
A score of 33 points or better was required to receive a ball in the rundown, with the nearest the pins won by Daniel Cruickshank (2nd), Brenton Cruickshank (5th), Greg Weybury (11th) and Dave Hogan (15th).
Sunday was the inaugural Swan Hill Football Netball Club charity golf day, with the event of the day being a four-person Ambrose, with more than 120 players participating.
The winners of the day, with a fantastic score of net 52.5, were Andy Graham, Mark Robinson, Jarrod Arentz and Gene Brooks, while finishing second, with a score of net 53.75, were Noah Starrs, Jayden Treblecock, Jayden Graham and Tobie Richardson.
Rounding out the podium in third place, with a score of 55.375 net, were Craig Fletcher, Mathew Collins, Pat Caldwell and Brenton Caldwell.
MURRAY DOWNS LADIES
CAMERON’S Fine Jewellers have been long-time sponsors of women’s golf at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club and on Wednesday 28 pairs contested the annual Gold Links aggregate par four-ball event.
Jenny Lynas has introduced her daughter Tamika Hogan to the addictive game and they combined to post a score of one up to take out first prize.
Second placegetters were Marg Moore and Colleen Roberts on one down, to finish ahead of Kathy Parkinson and Naomi Domaille on countback.
Jenny Lynas, Kathy Parkinson, Claris Bourne and Naomi Parkinson were the nearest-the-pin winners.
The threat of rain reduced Saturday’s field, with Sarah Clark (20), on 34 points, claiming victory ahead of Jenice Krahnert (29) on 33, while Kerry Gammon (31) and Dione Heppell (11) also posted scores of 33 points.
The event set down for next week is a yellow-themed day, with participants asked to wear yellow as a nod to Daffodil Day as proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
Players will compete from the yellow tees, which have historically been part of the men’s events.
Handicaps will be adjusted accordingly as this is a longer iteration of the course.
MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY
ON Monday members of the Dad’s Army played the back nine, with Rob Smith and Kevin Maddy both coming in with 19 points.
They were followed by Robert Deighton on 18 points, Gordon Parsons on 17 points, Barry Bishop and Ross Cox 15 points, Barry Ingram on 14 points and Ian Dickson on 13 points.
On Wednesday members played the front nine, with Kevin Maddy again leading the field with 19 points, with Barry Bishop and Ian Dickson following on 18 points, Gordon Parsons on 15 points, Barry Ingram on 14 points, Rob Smith on 11 points and Gavin Scown on 10 Points.
The weekly winner, with a combined score of 30 or better, was Kevin Maddy with 38 points, ahead of Barry Bishop on 33 points, Gordon Parsons on 32 points, Ian Dickson on 31 points and Rob Smith on 30 points, with Kevin taking home the tin of fruit.
