MURRAY DOWNS MEN

MORE than 60 players took to the course for Thursday’s medley Stableford event, with Bob Burns claiming the honours in A Grade with a great round of 40 points from his 13 handicap. Max Thompson finished runner-up with 37 points.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Richard Johnson, who scored 40 points from his 29 handicap, while Tommy Wilkins finished runner up with 37 points on countback.

A score of 34 points or better was required to feature in the ball rundown, while the nearest the pins were won by Wayne Such (2nd hole), Mark Warren (5th), Gregory Daniels (11th) and Ross Hastings (15th).

More thanr 110 players took advantage of the fantastic weather on Saturday to enter the 4BBB aggregate competition.

The winners of the day, with a superb score of 74 points, were Robert James and Tony Ford, with Joseph Dorigo and Stephen Cameron finishing second with 72 points and holding off David Stableford and James Cooke in third place with 72 points on countback.

A score of 65 points or better was good enough to feature in the ball rundown, with the nearest the pins won by Roger Walker (11th) and Gregory Armsden (15th).

Sunday’s play was a medley par competition, with the best score of the day belonging to A Grade winner Jayden Graham, who finished with a great score of +4 from his 12 handicap, while Luke Wilson finished runner-up square.

Mitchell Ryan won the B Grade competition with a score of square from his handicap of 20, while Kayne Walker came second with -1.

A score of -2 or better was good enough to feature in the ball rundown, with the nearest the pins won by Robert Forster (2nd), Brenton Halligan (5th), Malcolm Deveraux (11th) and Robert Schammer (15th).


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

GOLFERS decked out in yellow on Wednesday for their first sortie into golf from the yellow tea markers, which have been the prerogative of male golfers up until recently.

Golf Australia has embraced equal opportunity and now allows all golfers to choose which tees they will play off for selected rounds, with handicaps adjusted accordingly for most of the competitors acquiring an extra four shots on this occasion.

The yellow theme was carried on into the clubhouse, where daffodils adorned the tables in a nod to Daffodil Day. Proceeds of a competition will be donated to a local charity connected to cancer support.

The event was played in extremely windy conditions over two divisions, with Division 2 competitors Sally Fearn (41) and Jo Williams (46) both posting 37 points, the former winning on countback.

In Division 1 32 points was the winning score, with Chris Warburton (21) winning on countback ahead of Carol Wiseman (31).

Bev West with 36 points and Sonya Symes (Yarrawonga Golf Club) and Tamika Hogan, both with 35 points, led the ball pool, while the nearest-the-pin prizes went to Kristy Gordon, Jo Williams, Georgina Douglas and Paula Pickert.

An aggregate Stableford four-ball was held on Saturday, with Kerry Gammon and Sue Davis combining well to score 66 points and win ahead of Claris Bourne and Joan Foster.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday members played the back nine in a Stableford event, with joint winners Damian Kelly and Ian Dickson finishing on 21 points ahead of Rob Smith (20 points), Gavin Scown (17 points), Gordon Parson and Barry Ingram (16 points).

On Wednesday, the last Wednesday of the month, a different format of play being chosen by a member, with a par competition on the front-nine chosen by Gavin.

Robert Deighton returned the best score with +3, ahead of Gavin Scown (+1), Ian Dickson and Damian Kelly (even) and Kevin Maddy (-2), with four members on -3.

LAKESIDE LADIES

WINDY conditions challenged all the golfers who tackled Lakeside on Wednesday, with the exception of Mandy Male (10), who finished with 35 points and won the day.

Sue Notting (25) with 31 points was runner-up and Jean Youl (17) with 26 points won the ball pool.

The nearest the pins were won by Mandy (3rd hole), Deanne Free (7th), Jean (12th) and Mandy (18th), while Mandy and Deanne had gobblers on the 8th and Joan had a gobbler on the 3rd.

Next week will be the last round of Wednesday golf. Sunday, September 9, will the closing closing day, which will be a pink day 3P Ambrose event.


NYAH WEST

WILD thunderstorms last Sunday brought the Stableford round to a sudden halt, with most having five holes to play as members mad a dash for the safety of the clubhouse.

As a consequence, the daily event reverted to a nine-hole competition, with Michael Watson declared the winner on 21 points. Leigh Paynter finished runner-up on countback ahead of Bryan Rogers on 19 points, with Graham Muir and Dennis Pretty next best on 18 points.

Nearest the pins went to John Manser on the Goodyear Autocare 2nd hole, Michael Watson on the Nyah West Pharmacy 12th hole, Dennis Pretty on the Nutrien Ag Solutions 15th hole and Leigh Paynter on the Rutherford Street Tyres 16th hole. The Country Tracks 4WD Swan Hill eagles’ nest scored another egg.

The successful junior golf development program continues each Sunday morning at 10am, with all interested children encouraged to attend.
