Murray Downs Women

WINDY weather is often associated with the spring equinox, and this has certainly been the case for Murray Downs golfers for the start of September.

Some competitors have posted great scores despite the wind. Perhaps it is because the fairways and greens are in great condition in the lead-up to the New South Wales Open.

A field of 63 women took out cards in the ultimate round of the Holt’s Mitsubishi, Hyundai and Isuzu Ute Spring Brooch, which has been held over the past three weeks.

The winner will be announced at the annual presentation day next month.

Jo Williams was the star of the day, scoring five up from her 41 handicap to win Division 2 from Jenice Krahnert (29) three up and Di Atkin (32) two up.

In Division 1, Terri O’Callaghan (16, Trentham) and Rosie Ficarra (23) both scored four up, with the former winning the countback. Mary-Anne Davis was next best with one up.

Eilleen Willox and Sally Fearn both scored one up and Judy McMahon and Kerry McDonald were both square and led the ball pool.

Nearest-the-pin winners were Tamika Hogan, Georgina Douglas, Rosie Ficarra and Bev Holt.

Strong winds were also a factor on Saturday, but did not deter junior golfer Mabel Spitty, who scored 38 points from her 15 handicap to win Division 1.

Runner-up was Terri O’Callaghan (16) 36 points.

Nadine Cox (29) 35 points and Tamika Hogan (32) 34 points were successful in Division 2.

Leading the ball countdown were Sarah Clarke 33 and Melita Sartori and Jenny Lynas, both 32.

Lyn Merrett and Suzanne Napier collected NTP prizes.
