MURRAY DOWNS MEN

A SMALL group of players took he course on Tuesday for a medley Stableford competition.

The best score of the day belonged to A Grade winner Steven Blumer, who had a great round of 38 points from his 13 handicap, while Mark Warren came in second with 37 points.

A score of 32 points or better was good enough to feature in the ball run down.

NTPs: 2nd Mark Warren, 11th Paul Bethune.

Thursday was a medley stroke competition, with about 70 players taking the course in the blustery conditions.

Lyonel O’Sahannassy took out A Grade with 73 net on a countback, ahead of Dale Smith.

The best score of the day belonged to B Grade winner Leslie McPhee, who returned a round of 72 net from his 33 handicap, while David Unger came in runner-up with 72 net also.

A score of 77 net or better was good enough to feature in the ball run-down.

NTPs: 2nd Samuel Rovere, 5th Mathew Loats, 11th Raymond Power, 15th Leigh Paynter.

Saturday’s competition was a single Stableford event this week, with about 90 players entering for the day.

The best score of the day belonged to A Grade winner Lyonel O’Shannassy, who had a great round of 40 points from his 11 handicap, which was good enough to beat Keith Maeger on a countback.

Malcolm Talbot took honours in B Grade with a nice round of 39 points from his 15 mark, Stuart Holt coming in second with 38 points.

The scoring didn’t slow down in C Grade either, with Tim Hoare taking out the grade with 40 points, two shots clear of Eion Janse Van Rensburg with 38 points.

A score of 33 points or better was good enough to feature in the ball run down.

NTPs: 2nd Malcolm Seaton-Stewart, 5th Graeme Cox, 11th Justin Toomey, 15th Rick Rundell-Gordon.

This week’s Sunday competition was a medley par competition.

A Grade was decided on a countback, with Brenton Halligan’s 37 points prevailing ahead of David McLelland, also with 37.

The best score of the day came out of B Grade, with Green Acres golf club visitor Suresh Nair registering a great round of 40 points to finish two points clear of runner-up Tony Miceli.

Claris Bourne took out C Grade with a great round of 39 points, while fellow lady Nadine Cox came in runner-up with 34 points.

NTPs: 2nd Zachary Haywood, 5th Steven Bulmer, 11th Shane Ingram, 15th Ricky Pickering.


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

THE Murray Downs Golf & Country Club women’s committee is gearing up for the annual Three-Day Classic Golf tournament to be held on October 2, 3 and 4.

There are limited entries available for the event. Details are available from the pro shop.

On Wednesday, the best score of the day was posted by Sally Fearn (36), with 39 points, to win Division 2 from Barb Clark (31) 38 points.

In Division 1, Jan Butcher (26) with 38 points and Maralyn Morrison (27) with 35 points were the leaders.

Colleen Roberts, 36 points, and Dianne Nalder and Georgina Douglas, both 35 points, led the ball run-down.

Pam Austerberry scooped up the jackpot with her tee shot on the par 3 11th hole, with the other NTPs going to Kathy Parkinson, Julie McLennan and Georgina Douglas.

Claris Bourne (30), with 40 points won Saturday’s Stableford event from Suzanne McLellan (24) on 37 points. Ruth McAlister (27) on 36 points and Kerry Gammon (34) on 35 points were next best.

Suzanne McLellan and Margaret Moore collected the NTP rewards.

The official golf season is coming to a close with the annual meeting and presentation of yearly trophies be held on October 16.

The knockout events have been finalised, with Rosie Ficarra winning the Donnington Cup in a play-off with Lynne Bishop. Barb Cadd was the victor in the singles KO against Sally Fearn and Mag Kiley and Margaret Moore defeated Barb Upton and Jenny White in a 23-hole marathon in the four-ball KO.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday members played the back nine.

Ian Dickson returned the best score with 20 points, followed by Gavin Scown and Kevin Maddy on 18 points and two Barry Ingram and Barry Bishop.

No competition golf was played on Wednesday, but two members played a social nine.
