MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

THE first event in the 29th annual women’s Classic Golf Tournament was run and won on Wednesday, with captain Pam Austerberry welcoming 115 golfers from more than 20 clubs across Victoria and interstate for the single stableford round.

A stroke round and fourball was held on Thursday and Friday.

Thirty nine points was the winning score over two grades, with Eunice Chan-Healey (23) from Rosanna Golf Club and Tamika Hogan (31) the B and C grade winners, with local Paula Pickert (16) successful in A grade with 34 points.

The runners-up in the three grades were Lynne Smith (18) with 33 points, Alison Gibson (24) from Rosanna Golf Club with 37 points and Karyn Sanders (31) from Gisborne Golf Club with 35 points.

Scores down to 32 points collected golf balls from the ball pool, while the nearest the pin winners were Anne Harris (Corowa), Tamika Hogan, Paula Pickert and Pam Austerberry.

Barb Clark made a welcome return to form on Saturday with a meritorious round of 39 points to win on a count back from Claris Bourne (28).

Kristy Gordon 37 points and Nadine Cox 36 points were next best, while Jenice Krahnert collected two nearest the pin prizes.

On Friday’s Golden Girls, Di Plant also found form scoring 21 points to win ahead of Barb Upton on 20 points, with the next outing for the Golden Girls on Friday, October 11.

The annual meeting and presentation of yearly trophies will be held after golf next Wednesday.

MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday, September 30, members of Dad’s Army played the back-nine, with Kevin Maddy returning the best score with 19 points.

He was followed Barry Ingram on 18 points, Ian Dickson on 16 points and Graeme Bray and Robert Smith on 15 points.

The monthly winner was Barry Ingram, who took home the tin of fruit.

On Wednesday, October 2, members of Dad’s Army played the front-nine, with the best score recorded from Robert Smith with 18 points.

Kevin Maddy, Barry Ingram, Graeme Bray and John Brereton scored 17 points and were followed by Ian Ray on 16 points and both Damian Kelly and Barry Bishop on 15 points.

Members also welcomed back Rob Allan.

The weekly winner was Kevin Maddy on 36 points, while the runner-up was Barry Ingram on 35 points.

They were followed by Robert Smith on 33 points, Graeme Bray on 32 points, Barry Bishop on 29 points, Damian Kelly on 27 points and John Brereton on 26 points.
