MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S

ON Tuesday we held a medley par competition, with around 40 players competing.

The best score of the day belonged to A grade winner Roger Walker, who shot a superb round of +6 from his 14 handicap to win on a count back ahead of Matt Quaife, who also had +6 from his six handicap.

Andrew Downes’ round of +3 was good enough to see him get the win in B grade, while David Bourne finished runner-up with +2.

The nearest the pins were won by Roger Walker (5th), Bob Burns (11th) and Anthony Ford (15th).

Last Thursday we held a medley stableford competition, with just more than 70 players making the most of the fantastic weather.

A grade had to be settled via a countback, with Dale Smith’s 37 points seeing him prevail ahead of Craig Fletcher, who also had 37.

The ever steady Ron Munro won the B grade competition with a handy 36 points, while Paddy Dow came in runner-up with 35 points.

The best score of the day belonged to C grade winner Howard Rosewarne, who finished with a great score of 38 points from his 27 handicap, with Neil Bailey finishing second with 37 points.

The nearest the pins were won by Darryl Domaille (2nd), Matthew Loats (5th), Dale Smith (11th) and Jon Hirst (15th).

Saturday saw a men’s stroke competition, which coincided with the third round of our men’s club championships as well.

James Walsh from the Bendigo Golf Club absolutely blitzed the A grade field with a sensational round of 66 nett from his handicap of one, while Lleyton McLean finished runner up with a 70 nett score.

The best score of the day belonged to B grade winner Steve Bulmer, who finished with a fantastic round of 65 nett, which was seven clear of Andrew Gilchrist in second place with a 72 nett score.

A countback was required to find the winner in the C grade, with Jason Perry’s 70 nett score prevailing ahead of Quenten Graham, also with 70 nett.

Scoring was strong again in D grade this week, with Johannes Engelbrecht’s nett 67 getting the job done, finishing one shot clear of Brett Farlie in second place with 68 nett.

The nearest the pins were won by Shane Ingram (2nd and 5th), Steve Bulmer (11th) and James Walsh (15th).

Sunday was again a men’s stroke event, which was the final round of our men’s club championships.

The best score of the day belonged to A grade winner Dale Jager, who saluted with a solid round of 70 nett, while Tynan Perry finished second with a 71 nett score on a countback.

John Webb took out the B grade competition with 71 nett score via a countback, ahead of Troy Gniteki with 71 nett also.

In C grade, Alan Spencer’s round of 72 nett was good enough for him to win by one stroke, ahead of Ron Munro with 73 nett.

The nearest the pins went to Adrian Knee (2nd), Rick Rundell-Gordon (5th), Luke Rodgers (11th), Gary Blencowe (15th).

The overall results for the club championships saw quite a tussle between the top two players, with plenty of momentum changes occurring throughout the final round.

Ultimately, James McLean claimed victory for the fourth consecutive year, with a special mention going to Lleyton McLean, who finished runner-up, which in itself was a great effort considering this time last year he was the B grade champion.

Ollie Rohde led the B grade field this year from the start and never looked back, winning by a comfortable margin, while Quenten Graham started the final day with a two shot deficit, but stormed home to win the C grade title.

The D grade club championships was relatively close between all four players in the final grouping, but it was Sebastian Parsegian who was able to separate himself from the pack and take the win.

In the aged categories, our junior club champion was Noah Starrs, who went back-to-back, while our seniors champion was Ross Hastings.

Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who participated throughout the event, it was great to see so many players complete all four rounds.
