Pro-Am tee time

AS part of Murray Downs week-long golfing festival that started on Monday, 120 amateur golfers will have the chance to pit their game against some of the best golfers in Australia.

In the lead up to the main event, the NSW Men’s Open Championship, golfing fans will spend 18 holes alongside players of the calibre of Cameron Smith, Geoff Ogilvy, Lucas Herbert, Josh Younger and Jake McLeod in a Pro-Am event on Wednesday.

Play will be spread over two groups, with a morning and an afternoon session.

Each group will consist of 20 teams made up of one professional and three amateurs.

Tee time is a 7.30am shotgun start for the first group while the second will tee off at 1pm.

Marketing and promotions manager for Murray Downs, Shaun O’Bree said the event would be a great and rare chance for avid golfers.

“The entrants were selected by invitation only and they will get to go around the course with professionals who can offer tips and demonstrate their own game in person,” he said.

“Spectators are welcome to walk the course to watch the action up close.

“They will also get a chance to see what the Murray Downs Golf Course has to offer competitors in the main event starting Thursday.

“We have had a lot of school children visiting yesterday and we’ll have more again today.

“There’s a lot of clinics and other activities for the kids to get involved in and that will continue throughout the week.

“Friday evening we have the Swings and Strings Festival which will be a great family event.

“We really hope everyone gets a chance to pop out to Murray Downs throughout the week to see what’s happening.

“It really is a special occasion, and may well be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for locals to see it first hand in their home region.”

For the amateurs taking to the greens, there’s little doubt they’ll be playing for sheep stations.

The Guardian will keep you updated with all results via Facebook and Friday’s edition.
