The 19th Hole

MURRAY DOWNS MENS

THE temperature has dropped significantly in the last week, and some of the scoring has been low too.

In the Thursday Stableford competition last week, Robert Hinton (15) and Stephen Cameron (15) both had 81 off the stick to finish on 41 points each.

Hinton took out the overall prize in the field of 91 golfers with a better back nine to claim the top spot on a countback.

In A grade, Dave Hogan (10), Dale Smith (10) and Andrew Petersen (10) all finished on 37 points to finish one, two and three in the top grade.

Trent Hawkins (16) had 39 points and came third behind Robert and Stephen in B grade.

Rick Austerberry (23) led C grade with 38 points ahead of Tori Ficarra (23) 36 points and Gary Hughes (23) 35 points.

Taking home the top spot in D grade was Richard Johnson (39) on 38 points with Les McPhee (32) 38 points in second and Geoffrey Bett (32) 38 points taking out third.

Notably, two players got within one metre on the 11th hole, having to share the jackpot prize, well done Andrew Petersen and Tori Ficarra for knocking them close.

Johnny Tripodi took out the Monthly Medal last Saturday with an impressive Nett -6.

In the Monthly Medal you have to count every stroke and to win by three strokes ahead of the field is an impressive outcome.

Stuart McLean (9) was best in A grade on -3, Mathew Quaife (4) close behind on -2 and young Harper Wilson (11) continued his recent form in third on -1.

The best behind the Monthly Medal winner in B grade was Laurie Shipsides (17) even with the card.

Tony Ford was the only player in C grade to beat his handicap, finishing with -3.

James Beard almost holed out on the 11th, hitting it to 20 centimetres and Mathew Quaife hit it even closer on the 15th hitting it to 13 centimetres.

Another big field turned out on Sunday to compete, with 84 players in all.

The Stableford competition only saw 16 players beat the course, with Noah Sherlock (31) topping the list on 41 points.

Blaine Cucia (3) from Robinvale Golf Club won on a countback in A grade on 39 points with Harper Wilson (9) the best of the locals on 38 points and Jack Cornelissen (10) in third, also on 38 points.

Tim Free (15) won B grade on 38, edging out two players from Robinvale, Jacob Pulvermueller (15) 38 points and Anthony Scarcella (14) on 37.

Nathan McNeill (37) from Kerang Golf Club and Owen Harrop (22) finished behind Noah in C grade on 38 and 37 points respectively.

Tuesday rounded out the week of golf with a Stableford competition from the gold markers.

The short course saw Dion Carmichael (16) win A grade on 38 points, Dale Smith (9) scored 37 points in second and Hugo Gray (scratch) from Barham was third on 37.

Ron Munro (21) beat allcomers in B grade on 39 points, Adrian Walker (25) finished with a fine 37 in second and Ian Gammon (22) filling up the podium on 36.

Congratulations to the known Knockout winners from the weekend as well, with Dale Smith in the singles and Paul Bethune and Ian Johansen progressing to the next round in the 4BBB.
