MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

SIXTY-nine pairs of women teed off in the annual Silver Putter four-ball event at the Murray Downs Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.

Visitors from clubs across South Australia, New South Wales and all over Victoria endured rain and icy winds straight from Antarctic, with a feature of the winners list being that the three major placegetters all held lower level handicaps.

Carolyn Huggins (23) and Debra Ryan (20) from the Cobram-Barooga Golf Club are now the owners of shiny new Odyssey putters after scoring 44 points to win by three points ahead of Debbie Milne (18) and Jenny Meade (20) from the Terang Golf Club.

Jenny O’Connor (16) and Kerry Peterson (14) from the Gisborne Golf Club finished third on a count back ahead of the 2024 winners and local pairing Robyn Bett and Julie Overall, with Sue Davis and Di Pinal and Janette Tucker and Bianca Brasser also in the mix.

Visitors Jodie Cowling, Wendy Featherstone and Virginia Dalton won three of the nearest the pin prizes, with local Jo Watts also successful.

On Saturday, Dione Heppell (9) scored 38 points, with Robyn Bett (28) and Deb Watson (39) both scoring 37 points to finish on top of the winners lists, with Dione and Deb also collecting nearest the pin prizes.

Claris Bourne (27) 2-up, Colleen Roberts (29) 1-up and Nadine Cox (28) square were the leaders on Sunday.

Barb Upton (18 points) and Jo Williams (14 points) were the best players in Friday’s Golden Girls competition, with Jenny White a nearest the pin prize winner.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday, June 16, members of Dad’s army played the back-nine, with Keith Plant returning the days best score with 17 points.

Keith finished ahead of Barry Bishop, Robert Smith and Gavin Scown on 15 points, with the others all recording 12 points or below.

On Wednesday, June 18, members played the front-nine, with Barry Ingram leading the field with 19 points and was closely followed by Andrew Millar on 18 points, Tom Wilkins on 17 points, Barry Bishop on 14 points, Gavin Scown and Kevin Maddy on 13 points, with the remaining players all scoring 12 points or less.

The weekly winners were Barry Bishop and Tom Wilkins with 29 points, ahead of Gavin Scown with 28 points, Ian Dickson, Colin Hayward and Kevin Maddy on 24 points and Brian Devlin on 22 points.

On Monday, June 23, members played the back-nine, with Barry Ingram coming home with 19 points, ahead of Gavin Scown on 17 points, Kevin Maddy on 16 points, Barry Bishop on 15 points, with the balance of the field scoring 12 points and below.

There was no golf on Wednesday, June 25, owing to the clubs silver putter event, with everyone wishing all a great tournament over the next few days.


LALBERT

ON Sunday, June 15, the second round of the Club Championships was held, with the best scratch score of the day recorded by Dale Jager with 73, ahead of Doug Meehan with 77.

The handicap winner was Lee O’Meara with a 67 Nett on a countback ahead of Chayse Worner.

The ladies scratch winner was Karen McKissack on 95 ahead of Jess Worner on 106.

On Sunday, June 22, the third round of the Club Championships was held, with Brad Kelly returning the best scratch score with 80 and was closely followed by Doug Meehan on 81.

In the handicap section, a clear winner was found with Chayse Worner scoring a Nett 63 ahead of Zac O’Meara on Nett 71.

In the ladies scratch event, Karen McKissack came out on top with 93 ahead of Jess Worner on 97.

The nearest the pin was won by Chayse Worner.


NYAH WEST

ANDREW Flanagan and Thelma Watson are the respective men’s and ladies club champions for 2025.

Andrew increased his supremacy during the final round to eventually win by 14 strokes, with a three round championship score of 249 (nett 231), with Michael Watson unable to bridge the gap after scoring 263 (nett 230), with John Manser 266/236 and Dennis Pretty 280/247 following.

The best Nett Score champions trophy was won by 10-year-old Eli Dickeson, who is playing off a handy beginners handicap of 32, to finish with a score of net 207, 23 strokes clear of the rest of the field.

The Wealth Architects Swan Hill sponsored 4BBB Stableford tournament for both men and ladies with or without a handicap will be played on Sunday with an 11.30am assembly.
