Macorna 62 d Hay 54

MACORNA have caused one of the upsets of the season with an eight-goal defeat of third-placed Hay at the weekend.

In an action-packed game, the Tigers overcome a slow start to record a 62-54 win over the Lions and register their highest score of the season.

The game had some mouth-watering match-ups, with Hay regaining their all-important goal shooter Kellie Walker, who was opposed to Macorna’s Erin Delahunty.

At the other end of the court, Asela Finch was able to make a mockery of the Lions defence, while April Wishart and Maddie Mannes battled it out in the midcourt.

Finch shot a season-high 39 goals and matched Walker’s efforts at the other end, with the Tigers scoring 20 goals in the third quarter to turn a three-goal half-time deficit into a three-goal lead by the final break.

Macorna’s eight-goal win keeps them in the race for the finals, equal on points with fourth-placed Moulamein ahead of their crucial battle this Saturday.

Murrabit 41 d Ultima 39

IT was a top-of-the-table clash for the ages when Murrabit and Ultima met in a close-fought battle, with the Blues claiming a two-goal win over their rivals, 41-39.

In what could prove to be a taste of finals action to come, the reigning premiers’ fast start proved the difference, Murrabit jumping out of the blocks early to hold an eight-goal lead at quarter-time.

While the Roos steadied in the second and third terms, it wasn’t until the final 15 minutes when they made their move, outscoring Murrabit 14-8 to fall just short.

Ultima’s Bianca Brasser kept Murrabit shooter Grace Gillingham to just 17 goals in an incredible defensive display, while Emelia Shannahan continues to mark her dominance of the Golden Rivers competition, scoring a game-high 24 goals for the Blues, with Ash Sanders (23 goals) Ultima’s leading goal scorer for the afternoon.

Moulamein 43 d Wandella 29

MOULAMEIN geared up for their all-important clash with the Tigers this Saturday with a hard-fought 14-goal win against Wandella.

The Bombers came out firing and held a four-goal lead at quarter-time, with some sharp shooting from Nikita Robinson helping them jump the Swans in the opening term.

After making some much-needed changes at the break, the Swans took control of the game in the second quarter, with Hannah Morton proving to be a star in defence for Moulamein, and Eliza Perryman again standing out for the Bombers.

Jorja McDonald (21 goals) and Meg-Jordyne Rooney (20 goals) dominated the Swans’ forward third in the 43-29 win, with the Bombers remaining winless for the season despite their strong start.
