KERANG residents turned out at Riverside Park to get tested on Tuesday after a COVID-positive person shopped at Woolworths Kerang on Saturday.
Bendigo Health nurse unit manager Nicole Harper said the response from the community had been “absolutely phenomenal”.
Ms Harper and associate nurse unit manager Rose Faircloud were sent to help with the outbreak as part of the rapid-response testing team.
“What we’ve seen here today, it’s just been fabulous,” Ms Harper said.
Cars queued around the oval and residents said they were ready to do the right thing by their community.
The Guardian spoke with people in the testing queue but has chosen not to name them for privacy reasons.
Person 1:
I was at the exposure site (Woolworths), but I’m not too worried for myself – I’m double-jabbed.
It’s about keeping other people safe.
Person 2:
I work at Woolworths and we were all called into the office and whoever was at the store at the time of the case was sent home.
I’m a little bit worried, I hope the case didn’t stop for too long and there won’t be an outbreak in the community.
Person 3:
I was at the exposure site on the day and I’ve come to get tested to make sure I’m safe – we don’t want COVID here.
Person 4:
Some of us work at Woolworths and we have come out to make sure we’re all OK. All of us were (at the Kerang store) at the same time as the positive case.
