Robinvale aged care facilities get a boost

ROBINVALE District Health Service’s (RDHS) residential aged care services are set to benefit from a funding boost to undertake minor capital projects.

RDHS operations in Manangatang will receive $46,205 and Robinvale will get $37,410.

RDHS interim chief executive Janet Hicks welcomed the funding, saying the money would support the upgrade of vital equipment and improve care for residents.

“Manangatang campus plans to modernise the nurse call system to provide improved communication and response to residents, and replacement of bedroom furniture in the Robinvale campus, will provide a more comfortable environment,” Ms Hicks said.

In 2021, multi-purpose providers had the opportunity to apply for a grant to undertake minor capital projects that directly related to the provision of residential aged care, for which 110 aged care sites were successful.

Member for Mallee Anne Webster said the funding represented an important opportunity for RDHS to deliver improvements and ensure quality levels of care were maintained, and that funding allowed regional or remote hospitals particularly to continue to play the central role in “birthing community” into the future.

“This funding is an opportunity for providers to maintain and reinforce the health, safety and wellbeing of residents – and it offers peace-of-mind for families eager to ensure their loved one receives quality care,” Dr Webster said.

“Regional hospitals need significant funding, especially when you consider the power of their work with nowhere near the resources they have in urban hospitals, and they need more.”

Almost $5 million has also been allocated to hospitals in NSW, including in the Southern NSW and Western NSW local health districts.

Aged Care Services Minister Richard Colbeck said similar facilities will soon have the opportunity to expand their services, with 100 new residential care places on offer through a competitive allocation round grants aiming to provide integrated health and aged care for regional or remote areas.
