“SAME services, different spot and name, that’s it.”
That is the message from Swan Hill District Health’s (SHDH) Community Health senior manager Gayle Taylor, with the relocation of health services from 60 McCrae Street to 125 Campbell Street.
Services that previously came under the umbrella of Health Promotion will now be referred to as Community Health, encompassing health promotion, breastfeeding support, women’s health, dietetics, diabetes education, refugee health, sexual health, cancer care coordination and McGrath breast care.
“With this move it is an opportunity to rethink about what services we now provide, because it was mainly health promotion and a little bit of community nursing, but now we have really expanded, so we changed the name to Community Health,” Ms Taylor said.
“I think Community Health resonates a bit more with the community and they know what that is.”
The move comes as their old building is set to be demolished as part of the SHDH Emergency Department redevelopment project.
The new Campbell Street clinic has been fully operational since Thursday, and Ms Taylor said the move was fairly seamless.
“We had clients up until Friday lunchtime, so we really only had to reschedule a couple of clients on Monday but not too many,” she said.
“It just came down to the timing of the new building being finished and ready to move. We try really hard not to reschedule any clients because it is really disruptive for them, but I feel like we have done pretty well.”
Ms Taylor said the general reaction from people about the new clinic has been really positive. However, the move is only temporary, with Community Health services set to move back to McCrae Street once the redevelopment is finished.
