Breast screen breakthrough

SWAN Hill has received a life-saving addition, with a partnership between Swan Hill District Health and BreastScreen Victoria to make early detection of breast cancer easier for residents.

A new permanent BreastScreen Victoria clinic has opened at 48 Splatt Street, replacing Mobile Screening Service Van visits to Swan Hill.

Breast screens or mammograms are free at the clinic, take just 10 minutes and are completed by a woman radiographer.

The new clinic allows women to book appointments without needing to schedule their breast screens around the mobile van’s availability.

BreastScreen Victoria chief executive Rita Butera said she was “delighted to have collaborated with Swan Hill District Health to establish a new permanent BreastScreen Victoria clinic in Swan Hill”.

“This new clinic reflects our unwavering commitment to the Swan Hill community, providing them with continuous access to our life-saving breast cancer screening program,” she said.

“Early detection of breast cancer is crucial and ensures that appropriate measures can be taken if necessary.”

Ms Butera recommended that any Swan Hill resident who hadn’t had a breast screen in the past two years book an appointment at the new clinic.

“I urge the local community who have received an invitation or reminder to screen to prioritise their health by booking an appointment on 132 050,” she said.

Online bookings can be made at breastscreen.org.au
