Doors reopen to donors

SWAN Hill residents will have the opportunity to give a potentially life-saving donation from the end of this month with the return of the Mobile Blood Donor Centre.

The Australian Red Cross’s Lifeblood mobile van will be situated in the Curlewis Street carpark from July 29 until August 9, taking donations from Monday to Friday.

A single blood donation is enough to save up to three lives as donations are used to assist in a range of health issues, from cancer and blood diseases to fractures and joint replacements.

Blood donations can also be used to help new mothers and their newborn children and in non-orthopaedic surgeries, as well as in response to road incidents and other trauma.

While donating can take just 10 minutes, residents are advised to allow up to an hour for an appointment, which includes a pre-donation chat with a friendly staff member.

Those donating can also put their feet up for a short time following their donation while they enjoy a complimentary snack and drink.

Residents aged between 18 and 75 who meet Lifeblood’s eligibility criteria can book in an appointment online, via the Lifeblood app or over the phone on 13 14 95.

Opening hours vary across the two weeks and can be found online at https://www.lifeblood.com.au/donor-centre/vic/swan-hill-mobile-donor-centre
