Breathing easier with funding

SWAN Hill Community U Inc has made its final donation of $993 for a new respiratory device to Swan Hill District Health.

The Airvo3 Machine delivers warmed and humidified oxygen to patients in the acute ward to make it easier for them to breathe.

In a statement, SHDH thanked Community U Inc members for their act of kindness to their patients.

“Our current machine is due for an upgrade, and thanks to Community U, we can now move forward with replacing it,” the statement read.

Swan Hill Community U Inc is a branch of the Bendigo Bank Connected Communities initiative, which channelled commissions from nominated accounts to a dedicated fund for each branch to then disperse into the community.

Community U Inc secretary James Thompson said the committee has supplied about $150,000 to various community groups and not-for-profits in Swan Hill since 2004.

“We found out that this machine is what the hospital wanted outside of the normal round of funding, and after a brief discussion we lined up our affairs and gave this funding to the hospital for this equipment,” he said.

“The hospital was always a worthy organisation to give funding to.

“The committee has helped fund tennis and bowls clubs, Little Athletics and other organisations around the town.

“I was proud to be part of a great organisation and help various community organisations achieve their goals.

“With this program coming to an end, there’s one less funding avenue for community events and equipment and that sort of thing.”
