French double fills Team Teal coffers at Swan Hill trots

YOUNG reinswoman Tayla French added another $800 into the Team Teal coffers after driving a double at the Swan Hill trots last Thursday night.

The donation will go towards the WomenCan Team Teal campaign, with all funds raised between February 1 and March 15 going towards helping women with ovarian cancer. The campaign sees reinswomen across the country race in teal pants, with $400 being donated each time they are first past the finishing post.

French secured her first win of the night in the fifth event on the card, when she piloted the Alex Ashwood-trained Simon home in a mile rate 1:58.7. After crossing Foolish Pleasure shortly after the start, French drove the perfect race, guiding Simon to an all the way win in front of Foolish Pleasure, with locally bred Major Delico running a game third after being trapped wide.

French then completed the double an hour later, guiding Pirates of Zanzibar home to win the F & S Bennett Pace. Coming off a hard fought second the Sunday prior at Boort, Pirates of Zanzibar made use of the sprint lane to overcome Magic Feeling in the last few strides and record a half neck win, in a mile rate of 1:59.4.

Not to be outdone, James Herbertson also had a night to remember, driving a treble on Story To Tell (Race 2), Forest Force (Race 3) and Neds Beach (Race 6) – on top of piloting Foolish Pleasure into second in the fifth race.

In the other races, Alex Ashwood produced a trainer/driver win on Impulze to take the first event on the card, while the Russell Jack trained Celebration Stride claimed the Ultima Hotel Trotters Handicap from Marengo Bay in a mile rate of 2:05.8.

Olivia Weidenbach did her bit for Team Teal in the final race of the evening on Beach Time, with the favourite holding off the fast finishing Von Art to claim victory in a mile rate of 1:59.0. The next meeting for the Swan Hill Trotting Club will be held on Sunday, May 1.
