Protesters not willing to be called neo-NazisI write in response to the apology in the Guardian on Friday November 26 to the supporters of Cr King’s motion to council.
Having been in attendance that day I thank you for retracting the anti vax sentiments, however I would like to point out the comment from Cr McKay stating that she did not mean to refer to anyone in Swan Hill as neo-Nazis but only those protesting in Melbourne.
I think that Cr McKay must be one of the most uninformed people in Swan Hill.
Over the past several weekends over 100 people from Swan Hill have made the trip to Melbourne opposing the government’s Pandemic Bill.
These people are pensioners, business owners, stay at home mums, farmers and others and they are not neo-Nazis.
They are concerned citizens taking a stand to stop the government from destroying livelihoods and dividing the communities we live in.
The protest marches in Melbourne did not receive much media attention as they were peaceful, but on November 20 there was an estimated 300,000 to 400,000 people (from all regions of Victoria including Swan Hill) who marched from Parliament house to Flagstaff Gardens.
I am not a neo-Nazi and other members of Mallee Pro Choice are not neo-Nazis.
Cr McKay needs to stop and think before making judgmental statements.
To be called neo-Nazis or even anti-vaxxers is offensive, we are meant to be living in a society of tolerance, Swan Hill is better than this.Shane Savage, SWAN HILL. Note: Victoria Police has estimated the crowd numbers to be 10,000 – 20,000 on November 20.
