Caution proven correct

RECOVERY and rebuild should be renamed “political hoaxes”.

The recent correspondence from Peter Walsh, Member for Murray Plains, detailing the Liberal-Nationals framework for the future is just a big political fish called “cods wallop”. The same old tired hackneyed political rhetoric that the Liberal-Nationals have been serving up to this electorate for too many years and the yawning chasm between rhetoric and real change demonstrate the words to be just more political double speak designed to hoodwink this long suffering electorate.

Lets look at the claims shall we?

1. The claims about Labor vote hunting in Melbourne over restrictions to duck hunting is absurd. Labor has has permitted ducking hunting to continue and has allowed bag limits to increase.

Duck hunters are hardly traditional Labor voters and Mr Walsh, as a member of the Swan Hill chapter of Field and Game Australia, has more vested interests on this topic than anyone.

Maybe Mr Walsh should simply tell the community that he has a conflict of interest on this topic and he will continually fight against the interests of animal welfare and blame Labor for his shameless efforts to cosy up to wetland conservative interest groups.

2. The so called plan for recovery and rebuild should be regarded with total scepticism by this electorate.

The whole plan centres largely around the rhetoric no more lockdowns. Wow? How quaint that is, we are into the pandemic by more than two years and now when the end is in sight, Mr Walsh pops up to say no more lockdowns.

The State Government has already started reintroducing freedoms and relaxation of lockdowns and mask wearing.

Does Mr Walsh need reminding that the Liberal-National Coalition at the Commonwealth level are the ones who have horribly botched the management of the pandemic and does he need reminding that the Commonwealth and Liberal-National Governments at the federal level and LNP State Governments in New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania all supported lockdowns?

And in so far as slashing hospital waitlists and fixing the mental health crisis, all I see is words, words, words and more blah, blah, blah, what plan does he have to achieve this.

I want to see less political double speak, less words and more action on specific economic initiatives for this region.

Demonstrate initiative, innovation and enthusiasm for bucking the political trend and building real jobs and creating a more dynamic tourist sector.

The only way that can be achieved is if the voters here in Murray Plains and the federal electorate of Mallee all vote for independent persons and parties.

Sixty-five years of double speak and arrogance from the Liberal-Nationals have proven my attitude and caution to be correct.

Alan Hollway,

Swan Hill

Chance to make change

THE voters of Mallee have a chance to make a change. We are once again being asked to elect someone to represent us in Canberra. Someone who will speak up and be our voice within Parliament.

For decades, Mallee has had no voice. Despite the Nationals being in government for 44 of the past 73 years, they have done little to support the electorate and Mallee remains one of the poorest electorates in Australia.

In the private sector, a performance that dire would have seen them fired a long time ago.

This election is the best chance in years for a fresh start, to stop rewarding failure and vote for a better future and an MP whose only focus is the welfare of Mallee.

That candidate is independent Sophie Baldwin. She has a history of fighting for her community, a deft touch as a negotiator and a fierce determination to make things better.

Already endorsed by Cathy McGowan, State MP for Mildura Ali Cupper and the father of the Yarriambiack Silo Art Trail Ray Kingston among others, Sophie Baldwin is our best choice to have a Mallee voice in Canberra.

It will take an unprecedented swing in the polls for the current federal government to survive this coming election. A change of government is the most likely result.

The choice is clear, Mallee can be represented by a backbench opposition National’s MP with their 73 year record of failure and policies driven by out of touch NSW focused men.

Or we can have an independent MP.

Sophie Baldwin will be focused solely on you, her Mallee constituents.

She may even have a slice of the balance of power which will bring investment and vigour back to Mallee.

Dave Lennon,

Jung
