Thanks due for ski race

A VERY enjoyable weekend was had by my family at the Robinvale Euston 80km Ski Race.

My husband and I man a course boat every year for Ski Racing Victoria.

Ski race you say, what ski race? Well, the one that neither Swan Hill Council or The Guardian decided to acknowledge or promote beforehand.

These boats are the exact same ones that take part in the Southern 80 at Echuca, which is said to bring in millions, yet it gets ignored in this Shire as far as promotion goes. But I digress.

I am writing to say a big thank you to the Robinvale Euston Football Netball Club and in particular their president Phil Lamattina for being so helpful when a couple of problems were put to them.

Because the toilet block at the football oval was in such a disgraceful condition, none of the 100 or more ladies camped at the oval would use them.

They were unswept, cobwebs everywhere, no soap or hand towel, no toilet paper, by Saturday night, dirty hand basins and in the men’s, according to my husband, there was faecal matter on one of the toilet seats that stayed there all weekend.

But the main concern was that there was no lighting. There are lights but they were not switched on.

It is very scary going to somewhere like that at 3am in the morning.

The footy club already has a couple toilets open but when Phil heard of our plight he opened up another change room for us which had lighting and even replaced an old toilet seat that was cracked.

Thanks mate, much appreciated.

Can I add that the dump point for RVs and caravans is situated at this toilet block and I imagine people would like to wash their hands after doing a job like that? It doesn’t give visitors to our region a very good impression.

Have we learned nothing from COVID about the importance of washing our hands?

Anyway, congratulations to all those teams (115 in total) who competed and to Superman for taking the outright win. See you again next year.
