RAPIDLY rising levels in the Merran Creek and Wakool and Niemur Rivers appear to be well on the way to reaching the 1975 peaks.
Overflow from the Merran Creek on Monday posed some threat to the Moulamein-Swan Hill road near “Merran Ridge” and Wakool Council placed small levees on the road shoulders as a precaution similar work was done on the approaches to the Coonamit Bridge over the Wakool River on the same road.
During the weekend a serious levee breach occurred on the Flight property near Rangemore and was contained only after a major effort by volunteers plugged the gap with 2000 sandbags.
Considerable problems are expected along the floodpaths of the Niemur and Wakool and associated creeks, but because the Billabong Creek is not seriously flooding, Moulamein is unlikely to experience major problems.
