Tuesday, February 15

· Animal rights activist Kate Bossence stepped up her fight to stop local waterways being transformed into “wildlife war zones”. A member of Regional Victorians Against Duckshooting, Ms Bossence has been rescuing injured birds and wants the duck hunting season cancelled once and for all.

· The works of more than 30 artists and 15 photographers were showcased during the Lake Boga Lions Club art and photography show at the Flying Boat Museum. The theme was The Mallee Through My Eyes.

Friday, February 18

· The father of a Melbourne teenager last seen near Swan Hill pleaded with people to look out for him along the Murray River. Sam Thomson took a small tent, but no phone, wallet, clothes, water or food when he dumped his car and went off-grid near Swan Hill. He later contacted police in South Australia.

· Swan Hill councillor Stuart King will fly the flag for Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party in the seat of Mallee at the federal election. He said the Australian way of life and democracy were under threat, and he would take a leave of absence from council to campaign.
