Friday, June 10
· Murray River Council acting mayor Frank Crawley said the NSW Government’s planning portal was intended to be more efficient and fast-track processes, but councils were having to employ extra staff to manage “the administrative burden”.
· Shane Kiley inherited the task of recording daily rainfall figures when he bought the Sea Lake post office six years ago. Mr Kiley said the weather was a major talking point for customers and its impact was clear. “When the farmers have a good year, businesses have a good year,” he said.
Tuesday, June 14
· The Swan Hill Cup racing carnival was hailed a huge success after two years decimated by COVID-19 lockdowns. Swan Hill Jockey Club president David Wilkins said the three-day event was expected to inject a long overdue boost of more than $2 million into the local economy.
· In a pre-recorded speech to the Murray Darling Basin Authority’s River Reflections conference, Water and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek committed to returning 450GL of water each year to the environment and delivering the Murray Darling Basin Plan, as agreed a decade ago.
