Friday, September 9
– Gannawarra Shire Councillor Garner Smith was called to step down for his “horrifically misogynistic” Facebook comments on a video of Richmond footballer Dustin Martin touching a woman’s breast. Cr Smith wrote “I’d be more worried if he didn’t go in for a feel” on a Yahoo post of the video of Martin. Gannawarra Shire Mayor Charlie Gillingham said he was “extremely disappointed with the comments”.
– The memorial water fountain on McCallum Street was restored to its former glory after sitting high and dry for more than a decade. It took 11 workers to complete the restoration over several months, which involved removing overgrown ivy, its root system, laying down bark and replacing the fountain’s spout.
Tuesday, September 13
– Nullawil Football Club claimed a hat trick victory as the 2022 Golden Rivers Football Netball League premiers, defeating Moulamein 16.18.114 to 7.4.46. Maroons head coach Brett Barker told The Guardian he was “ecstatic” and “couldn’t be happier” with the result.
– Long-time Woorinen resident Peter Clutterback self-published two books for four to six year olds called How Clever is Your Child? The books are designed to help parents encourage children to practice a range of learning activities while having fun colouring-in.
