Newbridge netball season preview

NEWBRIDGE had a middling season in 2023, and with its record of 8-8 – going into the post season on the back of two losses – it was no surprise when the Maroons bowed out in the first week of the finals action.

That’s an incentive, however, which will carry over to 2024 and give the club’s new A-grade coaches something to use as a carrot (or stick, depending on how the season begins).

Determined to climb higher this time around, the Maroons will be looking for big things from new co-coaches Kristy Gandy and Selina Holland, who will just be running the A-grade.

Among the players to watch at Newbridge this season will be goal shooter Kym Childs, wing attack Sarah McClusky, and mid-court ace Rachel Pettifer.

Newbridge’s squad also includes Jorja Hufer, goal defence; Meg Jennings, goal defence; Sarah Lovel, defence; Morgan McCormick, attack; Laura Knight, wing defence; and Hayley Martiniella, centre.

Also on Newbridge’s netball coaching panel are Rachel Pettifer, B-grade; Emma Allen, C-grade; Madi Cleeland, C-reserve; Jessica Baker, 15-and-under, and 13-and-under.

Game one of the season will be at Bridgewater, which finished one game adrift of the Maroons in 2023, on April 13. And like the Mean Machine, Newbridge will be looking to boost its performance under the goal ring as 2023’s 703 goals won’t be anywhere near enough.
