TWENTY-FIVE Wingless Sprints faced the green flag in an entertaining night of action last Saturday at the Sonic Speedway.
Reece Harris won both of his heats and as such was entitled to start favourite for the final, with Will Green, Jordan Nicholas, Boyd Harris and local driver Michael Conlan also claiming victories in the heats.
Local driver Lockhlan Glare was leading his first heat until an overheating issue ruined his night, with another local Esther Thompson taking over as leader until an encounter with the wall left Harris with the win.
Thompson just missed out on qualifying for the A Main Final, leaving Glare and Conlan as the only locals to compete in the final.
Unfortunately, an incident towards the end of the final saw both drivers sent to the rear of field, ruining their chances in the process.
Harris continued his winning form, greeting the chequered flag first, ahead of Jaidyn Job, Kim-Loong Gosling, Sean Fitzpatrick and Will Scott.
Well done to Kerry Bright, Craig McDonald and Ricky Bailey who all ran in the top ten after qualifying from the B Main. The Wingless Sprints will return to Swan Hill on Saturday, May 7.
In the Formula 500’s, it was the experienced Neil Bedggood, Damien McKenzie and Chris Conlan going up against first timers Terry Knowles, Tom Nietvelt and Jordan Caddy. Bedggood was in ominous form early, winning the opening two heats, with Knowles recording two seconds and a win, while mechanical problems for Conlan and McKenzie meant they had an early night.
They were soon joined by Bedggood, who was unable to complete the third heat, leaving the three debutants to fight it out in the final – with Knowles finishing ahead of Caddy and Nietvelt.
Toby Carmichael dominated all three heats of the Sports Sedans and duly saluted in the final, while in the Standard Saloons, only five cars faced the green flag on the night. Of those that hit track, Aaron Marshall won two heats, with Trevor Crilly the other heat winner before mechanical problems ended his night prematurely.
Racing will return to the Sonic Speedway on Sunday, March 13, with the spectacular Super Rods set to headline the night.
