Jamie Crabbe at Sonic Speedway start line

Andrew Ferguson

JAMIE Crabbe has stepped into the presidency of Swan Hill’s Sonic Speedway.

Scott Bull stepped down after a couple of COVID-disrupted seasons and Crabbe assumed the position at the recent annual general meeting.

Bull started as a junior driver at the speedway before moving into open-age racing, where he drove for many years on top of preparing the racetrack, serving on the committee and being responsible for many improvements both on and off the track.

After many years of service including difficult times, Bull was presented with life membership.

A number of awards were given at the meeting, with Kiel Tripcony winning the overall points award and the Standard Saloon trophy ahead of Claude Pearson and Tom Lambert.

Pearson won the Hard Luck Award, while the Formula 500s trophy went to Jess Bedggood ahead of Malcom Gammon and Tom Nietvelt.

Blake Adam won the Junior Award ahead of Lachlan Bull and Emily Hooton, while the Rookie of the Year award was won by Jordan Caddy, the Best Presented Car award by Gammon and the Junior Encouragement Award by Rebecca Johnstone.

Angel Wings awards were given to Crabbe and Neil Bedggood for rolling their cars, while Neil was also presented with the black flag award for failing to stop for a red flag and getting himself disqualified during the season.

Sherrie Curnow won the June Domaille Award for her hard work last season.

The new speedway season starts in November, with new classes added and the return of old favourites including the Victorian Super Sedans and the V8 Trucks titles.
