Right formula for racing

SONIC Speedway roars into action on Saturday night, headlined by the Victorian title for Compact Sedans and backed up by the Victorian Formula 500s, SDAV Hot Rods, and local Formula 500s and Standards.

Local driver Zoey Salau will race with VIC 2 proudly displayed on her car after her second-place finish in the Victorian Open Ladies Title.

There will be 16 Compact Sedans, running 1000cc motorbike motors in a light frame, facing the green flag for their title.

Current AUS1 Mitch Whiting will probably be favourite, however AUS2, NSW1 and ACT1 Justin Paull will be keen to add another state title to his collection.

Trevor Perry was VIC2 last year and will be keen to improve on that result.

Mark Cecil, Janelle Saville and father Rod have all won GP Midget titles and have quickly adapted to compacts.

David Hutchinson has raced all over Australia, while Tania Hallett and Terry Brown are always near the front of the field pushing for a podium finish.

Local driver Duane Cordina will be hoping for some good luck in front of his home crowd, while Aaron Stubbs and Matt Papa will be thereabouts.

New driver Bowen Dankers is coming along leaps and bounds. Nick Parker will have his first compacts start, while Ally Moore and Daniel Wiles are having their second.

VIC Formulas are running one of their series heats so all drivers will be keen to build up their points scores.

In the Senior class, Dale Sinclair won the last round and is currently leading the points score so will be keen to keep his position, while Bailey Stephens had a podium finish at Nyora.

Terry Rankin is setting his car up for the upcoming Australian title, while Dylan Anton, Brad Malone and Steve Jabke are in good form and will push the frontrunners.

Maddox Gibbs and Dakota Lockett have just moved out of juniors and have quickly adapted to the step up.

In SDAV Hot Rods, Shannon Meakins in his “Spider-Man” car will probably start favourite, although everyone in the field is racing well enough to greet the chequered flag first.

If Phil Jenkins gets his new engine going, Neil Sixtus has a change of luck or Brendan Roberts and Tony Green continue their consistency, they will be right up there.

Although not racing a lot, local Jade Ewart showed he has the ability to race fast with a Legends Cup win to his name.

In our local Formula 500s, Tom Nietvelt holds bragging rights by a car length from Jess Bedggood, who will be keen to reverse the result.

Malcolm Gammon is racing consistently just behind and will be looking for either of them to slip up.

Second-year racer Darren Rushton is hoping to overcome engine problems and have a trouble-free night, while Terry Knowles will race for the first time this season.

Braydon Caddy has his first run in the class.

A small field of Standards will still put on a close show.

“Local” Trevor Evans will be keen to win again, although Josh Campbell says he has his mechanical problems sorted.

The same can be said for Troy Higgins who has had a lot of luck – mostly bad – lately.

Andrew Edwards and David Futter continue to improve each meeting.

Racing starts at 5.30pm with food and drinks available from the canteen. The club is cash only.
