Night of speedway action

SONIC Speedway fires up again on Saturday night with five classes of racing.

Round 7 of Sports Sedan is running and with only two rounds remaining after this, drivers will be giving their all.

Series leader Dale Smith has been very consistent all season and is the one to catch, while Brendan Miller, Tommy McDonald, Caleb Lincoln and Felicity Roycroft are right behind him.

Current VIC1 Jamie Lock has won twice this season and will be right up there.

Broderick Stray, Mildura winner Shannon Burke, Jason Berger, Anthony Nicolaisen, Leigh Mitchell, Rob Lock and Russell Smith have been consistent all series and will be waiting for the chance to catch the frontrunners. Rhys Meakins won here last year.

A lot of drivers are new to the class or just out of Juniors and have shown plenty of talent and continue to improve with each race, including Emma Threlfall, Connor Claridge, Jacob Tinworth, and Reece and Bailey Kakoschke.

Lachie Bull, Dennis Reid, Tyson Gleeson, Wayne Hooten, Peter Brennan and Mia Lamb are some more looking to impress.

Luke Fallon, Mick Mannix, Scott Bull and Josh Beattie are experienced drivers who haven’t raced much this year.

Bianca Ballentyne and Ken Mankey will share a car that will have a busy night, also running in GOSA Sedans. Expect fast, close racing all night from these drivers.

Over-20 GOSA Sedans will greet the green flag in another round of their series event. More than half the field is capable of winning.

VIC1 Daniel McCarten will be one of the favourites, while past VIC1s Ross McLean and Justin Brockley will push him all the way.

Justin Ewart won the championship last year.

Marty Bassett won the last round ahead of Stu Balins, while Mitch Watts, father and son Daniel and Daryl Joosten, Brendan Eames and Ben Schmetzer are all consistent runners quite capable of causing an upset.

Veteran Brendan Brewer has made a comeback while Steve Randall is hoping for a change of luck.

Several drivers are in their first season and are showing rapid improvement including Luke Collins, Cobie McGraw, Mick Meline, Brodie Montague, Michael Fleming Robertson and Mark Lehman.

JPSA Juniors are also running a series event.

Running up to 1500cc motors, they are split into All Stars and New Stars.

With no big sister to worry about, Tamika Simpson has really stepped up and is now TAS4 and won at Nyora, while James Oliver is really flying with a couple of podium finishes in his last couple of races as has Will Fallon.

Tyler Smith, Pary Das and Tristan Jarred are all racing well.

New to the class drivers Steane Cosson, Max Leerson, Jake Bradley, Miller Throckmorton, James Peacock, Zane Erickson and Cruz Carlin are all showing rapid improvement and dropping their lap times.

Pocket rocket Jaylen Knight is one to watch in New Stars, and Axel Robinson.

Blake Beach won at Wangaratta while Cruz Abela ran second. Blake will have sister Mandy right behind him all night.

Darcy Dannat, Rebecca Johnstone and Brad Marshall are getting faster each run.

At least 10 Standard Sedans will feature another round of the Swan Hill-Ballarat battle.

Austin Chivers had car trouble last meeting and will be hoping for a change of luck, while his brother Lachy won at Laang.

Other Ballarat drivers Patrick Walsh and Brad Sheppard are both racing consistently.

They will be up against Swan Hill’s Josh Campbell, who hopes he can finally have a trouble-free night.

Troy Higgins had a good night last meeting and hopes it will continue.

First-year driver Andrew Edwards continues to lower his lap times each meeting, while David Footer must be due for a change of luck.

VIC Mini/Lightning Sprints are like a small sprint car with a 1000cc to 1200cc motor running on methanol.

Ally Moore has won three out of four races this year and looks the one to beat, although Aaron Bell will be right behind her.

Jason Alie in his second year continues to race quicker, and daughter Alyssa is starting her career and will be keen to catch him.

Racing starts at 6.30pm.
