Speedway spills and thrills

ANDREW FERGUSON

SWAN Hill Speedway hosted the Glare Memorial event for Standard Sedans on December 28 and there was plenty of action and entertainment on offer.

The event kicked off with a minute of silence in memory of Jo and Mick Glare.

Our chief steward’s wife got the action started, and rollovers, crashes, contact with the wall, close, fast, noisy racing followed – it all happened at Sonic Speedway.

At the end of the night, Damon Ingram kept out of enough trouble to win the Glare Memorial for Standard Sedans.

AMCA driver Stephen Hopkins greeted the chequered flag first, while VIC 1 Ally Moore continued her winning run to head the field of Lightning Sprints.

Zac Swanson survived the bash and crash to win over what was left of the Sporties.

Jayden White held off the rest of the field to win Limited Sportsmen while John Hooten won his first here in Juniors.

Local drivers didn’t have a good night in general with Hayden Glare and sister Teaghan hitting the wall, while Troy Higgins along with passenger Bonnie rolled his car. Scott Bull hit a runaway tyre and almost launched himself with all four tyres leaving the ground.

On a brighter note, well done to Zoey Salau on her recent win at Wahgunya.

For another night of great entertainment, lock in Saturday, February 8.

Swan Hill Speedway will feature the return of the spectacular V8 trucks, a series round of GOSA sedans, and SSA Juniors who are extremely quick (and have no fear). Sporties, Standards and Formula 500s will also feature.
