Moulamein Notes with China Gibson December 3

We vote on Saturday

This is a hard one for me – we have to vote whether we keep our three wards in our new poxy shire, or go as one ward.

If we go as one, the numbers will kill us down this end and all of the power will go to the Moama end of our Murray River Shire.

This can not be good for us down here in the old Wakool Shire area, so this is not a hard decision from my point of view.

Vote no, and keep it as it is, because we could get gutted down this end if we do not have a voice.

The problem is, someone has to stand up down our end.

We are already one councillor short in our ward.

No, I can not stand up – that is why it is so hard to give advice.

Stand up or stand out, I have always believed.

Even though we are short of candidates down this end, I still believe that we need our three wards to stop all of the power going to the Silver City end of our Murray River Council.

Why they did not put us with the old Conargo Shire, I will never understand.

We had a lot more in common, but our two shires were financial and the other two were basket cases, so they gutted us and Conargo to drag the other two out of their mess.

For my two bob’s worth, vote no, and can someone please step up.

The rice is growing

Finally some hot weather – it will actually reach the high 30s this week for one day, with high 20s and low 30s for the rest of the week.

I do not get around the district much now days – no reason, I just stay at home or play bowls.

But if I did go for a drive, I am sure the rice would be going well.

Most of mine is, but the 25 per cent or so that I get to keep is rubbish.

Let’s give it another week to see what happens.

Why are we off quota?

Why is our Murray system not on off quota, or supplementary water as they call it these days?

Our Murrumbidgee system is, and has been since early July.

There is around 30,000 megs a day running out to sea at the bottom of our Murray, and 60 gates are open in their mongrel barrages to let this water out.

Why can’t our irrigators use this water to keep our economy going?

The only reason I can find out is that Lake Victoria must be full before there is off quota.

The trouble is that when Lake Victoria gets within a couple of per cent of being full, they shut it down and drain a heap out to stop it filling beyond a certain point.

With 30,000 megs going past, it could fill in half a day and give off quota water to our NSW Murray irrigators.

Maybe if I mention the MDBA Plan this mob in charge will read my notes.

So let’s try that again – the Murray Darling Basin Authority Plan has some explaining to do, and they may read my notes now that I have mentioned them twice.

The MDBA Plan has a lot of explaining to do to tell us why there is 30,000 megs a day going out to sea, but our Murray River irrigators in NSW do not get off quota?

I will do it one more time, as this will be the fourth time I have mentioned them – the MDBA Plan has a lot to answer for.

I actually got a phone call off them years ago from my April Fool’s joke about our town lake, because their computer scans the newspapers to see if they are mentioned anywhere.

Big Brother is out there.

Let’s see if he is watching this time.

Pennant bowls

Division 4 travelled to Racecourse this week and copped their first defeat.

One rink up, one down.

Down overall.

Division 1 was home to Swan Hill, and they may have lost a few players but they are still last year’s premiers.

One rink up, two down.

Down overall this week.

We have made the phone call and at the time of writing both teams are at Nyah.

Division 1 was away to Nyah and Division 4 was at home to Nyah, and we fixed that.

This could be a great bus trip, so please get your A Grade singles going as quick as you can fellers, as it has to be completed by New Year.

I copped that feller called ‘Bye’.

I do not know why he goes in the games, he never wins, but against me he may have a chance.

Good way to train Thursday’s fellers, get your games done.
