Moulamein Notes with China Gibson December 10

Moulamein Bridge rumour

I HEARD a rumour about our new Moulamein Bridge at Swan Hill at bowls on Saturday.

Evidently, the Tooleybuc Bridge has been put on hold because our Moulamein Bridge at Swan Hill has got the OK to go ahead.

This is only a rumour that may have no truth to it – I am sure my mates from the Anti-Bridge Mob will be all over it, and I expect a phone call.

Let’s hope there is a bit of truth in this information that I have picked up in a friendly game of bowls so I can drive over to Swan Hill to play my bowls without waiting before I die.

Unless our new Moulamein Bridge is being lifted to let a boat under it, of course.

But that is worth a look, and worth waiting for.

We voted on Saturday.

WE had to vote whether we keep our three wards in our new poxy shire, or go as one ward.

There was no information from our council, no advertising of why they wanted to do it.

Just yes or no.

Yep – they want to gut our end of our shire to give all of the power to Silver City.

We wait in anticipation for the result that is pretty easy to work out.

Keep fighting Wakool Shire residents, so they know we exist.

Off quota

IT’S amazing, I mentioned the MDBA a couple of times last week in my notes, and I now get emails telling me that there is off quota, or supplementary water it is known as now, on the Murray system.

That is great for anyone that has any left.

With so much water in the system we have just have to find a way for them to let us use a bit more.

Water could be flowing over the banks and no one can pump it because they have none left.

We had better find a way around the situation or my Crow Eating mates may be washed out to sea.

That would be a shame.

Cod season opening

WE almost needed traffic lights on our Edward River and Billabong Creek last weekend.

Even Merv Hughes was in town during the week, sipping on a quiet one at the Tatts Hotel.

Will be interesting to see if Moulamein gets a mention on his fishing show – one of my mob camping up on the ‘Bong got 24 cod between 38 and 67cm and 4 yellers between 38 and 49cm.

I think they will be back, all of the camps that I talked to caught cod and most got a feed.

There are still plenty of subway cod out there so this is great for the future.

More cod than carp getting caught, but try and tell that to the experts that think that carp still dominate our rivers.

The only place that carp still outnumber our native fish is across the border in Crow Eating country because as far as I know they still have professional fishermen raping and pillaging their rivers.

The saying has always beenn – you are now entering South Australia, please turn your clock back 50 years.

If they still have professional fishermen raping and pillaging their rivers it should be 100 years.

Those dogs take tonnes of fish out of our rivers every year and only put the carp through their books.
