Rice chief pops head in

THIS will be at Robert and Alison Glenn’s property, Edward Park, 1881 Balpool Road, from 4pm to 6pm on Thursday, March 2.

There will be a barbecue to follow and a few drinks provided after the rice walk.

SunRice CEO Rob Gordon, SunRice chairman Laurie Arthur, RMB chaiman John Culleton and RGA president Rob Massina will all be there.

Growers will be able find out what is going on with our industry as well as meet the new SunRice CEO of Global Rice, Bel Tumbers.

This sounds like a great meeting to go to. Unfortunately, I have been booked into an old man’s skin check for months and it is on that day and unfortunately nowhere near Moulamein.

I am not a regular rice grower, but I have some questions I would like to ask.

I see this meeting is very well advertised and that is good.

Getting to a field day now days is like invading a secret society.

I managed to get to one a month or so ago only because my young fellow is in the know.

I said, “Where is it?” He said, “I don’t know, I head to this blue dot on my phone”.

Of course, there were more agronomists and rice board employees that farmers there because no-one knew it was on.

I told the young lady if they want more people at their field days, I could put the in my notes.

I got the impression she could not give a shit how many turn up.

This is the first time I have grown rice for five years. You would reckon I was a new grower the amount of information I have received about field days to help me grow this great product.

Another thing. To fill in any of their surveys is not user-friendly.

They eventual got sick of ringing me to try and wade my way through crap.

Let’s hope someone else has had the trouble I have had in this new rice growing world and asks some questions.

You should RSVP by clicking on your email to register. Please RSVP to someone for catering purposes.

Football-netball fishing competition

OUE Swan Hill Truck Service footy netball fishing competition is coming up very soon on March 12 and 13.

This is always a big weekend for our town and our football netball club.

The cod are on the bite and you are guaranteed to go home well-fed and entertained.

For more information, ring Donald on 0439 071 226.

200 Club AGM

OUR Moulamein 200 Club will be holding its AGM on Thursday, March 10.

This will be a dinner meeting starting at 7pm at our Moulamein Bowling Club.

Our 200 Club is a very rare organisation that every member donates $200 and that is their only commitment for the year.

All of this money goes into a kitty and our 200 Club committee distributes it to worthy causes in our town and district.

We also have a dinner meeting once or twice a year if you feel like a night out.

The dinner meetings are all user-pay, and all of the donated money sits in the kitty to help our town and district out.

If you would like to join, please get in touch with Alison on 0458 346 682.

$200 will get you in, no obligation after that unless you want a bloody good time at your own expense with us.

Bowls

THERE it was, gone. Our bowls season that is.

We went up against last year’s premiers in the elimination final and went down on all three rinks.

We gave them a scare last time we played them, but they did not look like they were shacking in their boots with fear as they walked out onto the green.

Shacking with old age, maybe, or in anticipation of a good win.

Thank you to all of our bowlers this year that played every week.

Those that filled in when we needed them and especially those that stood out when we have too many.

Every club needs someone to take their turn out when everyone is available.

We need to give our bus driver, Allen, a big thank you as well.

Allen does not play bowls, but he is happy to drive us to and from bowls whenever he can.

Now days, there are not many that have a truck licence which you need to drive our bus.

We have a great time on the way home, win, lose or draw and Allen gets us all back home safely.

If we can, we would like to step up to Division 3 next year as we can fit more bowlers in every week.

Division 4 needs eight, Division 3 needs 12 per week.

If you are thinking of taking up our great game, come over and see us as we have to apply early to go up a grade.

But we need the numbers to do it with.

River levels

OUR Edward is dropping very slowly at around 2.6 metres and just over 3100 megalitres a day.

We will still have a good river for our foot netball fishing competition on March 12 and 13.
