What’s going on in Moulamein

Got One.

I finally caught one of my elusive Southern Bell Frogs.

They are very quick at jumping. If they were not protected, I think I could win a few frog jumping competitions with this fella.

The first two I saw as I was driving down our track tonight managed to get through the fence heading back towards the rice crop before I could catch them.

This one almost got behind the fridge. All good. Released back to the safety of the house dam.

They are a big bugger and supposed to be very rare. Not on my place, they are everywhere.

It must have come from our very healthy population of Southern Bell Frogs up in our Moulamein Town Lake. Karaoke Night.

This event will be held at our Moulamein Bowling Club on Saturday. This is a fundraising event to help our little mate Meika fight Rhabdo.

Rhabdo is a mongrel thing that no one should have to go through. This is Meika’s second battle with this cancer and we all wish her all the best.

This is bound to be a fun filled night for a great cause. Bring your voice, bring your wallet and leave your inhabitations at home.

I am not real sure how this works but I think someone can put up an amount of money to get you to sing.

You can sing or buy your way out of it. This should be a big night so get your voice tuned in.

Our chief Andrew has had to take the night off so we have the Kebab N Curry Hut from Swan Hill offering chicken or lamb kebabs and butter chicken with rice on the night.

If you are not getting enough curry at home, bring your sweetheart in and try some different curry. If there is enough interest there will be a bus running from Barham picking up on the way and most importantly dropping you off on the way home. Please get in touch with Lakes. Our club bus will also be running. Hope to see you there. The curry will kick off at 5pm. Kids Karaoke will kick off at 6pm until 7pm.

Then the adult’s session will kick up and keep going, and going, and going until we get sick of it. If you are a bit shy and would like a feed of curry, duck in early and make a run for it.

Footy-Netball Fishing Competition.

Our Swan Hill Truck Service Footy-Netball Fishing Competition was held last weekend with record entries. With juniors there were around 317, I think.

I do not know how many cod were caught but it would have been in the hundreds going by those that I got a chance to speak to.

Most of the cod were undersize but that just makes it better for the future for fishing in our local rivers. There were plenty of legal-size fish caught with two being around the 91cm mark.

Our Edward River was dropping at the time as it does every year around this time but for some reason the fish kept biting.

All of the meals seem to be provided with army precision and the biggest wait was on Saturday night.

Helen Dalton quits party.

Do not get too panicky for all those that support Helen. Our little mate Helen has not quit politics. Helen has only had a blue with the Shooters Farmers and Fishers Party because they would not back her on the Floodplain Harvesting Bill.

It was a bloody awful name anyway and Helen deserves better. When I was handing out how to vote cards at the last election. I hated to mention the name of her party as it sounded like a pack of rednecks.

We knew they were not, but the name did not do them any justice and they should seriously look at changing their name. Helen will now be standing as an independent and going against her old party at the next election.

Rice.

Harvest has started with a whimper with two farmers getting the headers into their crops. No records yet but they are going OK. There should be a few more kick up this week and look out after that. It will be full on for the next month or so.

Emergency Defibrillator.

If you are in our little town and you think you may need a defibrillator at any time of the day or night. There is always one available at our retirement home. The Edward River Gardens opposite our wharf or at 38 Turora Street.

This machine is available 24/7 if you need it – a great asset is provided by our Moulamein Men’s Shed.

River Levels.

Our Edward has levelled off again and is around 1.6 meters and just over 1300 megs a day.
