We are in the grand final
WE are heading to Nullawil this week to try and bring the mighty Nully down to our level.
It is a bit rough that we have to play Nully on their home turf but that is how it works nowadays. No neutral grounds.
When your name comes up, you get the big one. I think this is their third attempt to get the grand final as our mate COVID kept closing things down. Unfortunately, our mighty B Grade netballers got pipped at the post and will just be there this week as supporters. Well done, girls.
I was reminded of a bit of history after the game when I was having a yarn to one of our Quamby mates. The first year they were in our league, they took the grand final off us. I remembered that. When we won our last grand final in 1988, we beat Quamby. I didn’t remember that. No-one remembers who came second.
This year we put Quamby out of the finals run in their last year of footy. So there is plenty of history between our two clubs. Good luck to Quamby with whatever happens without a footy club. We feel for you.
It is a long way out to Nully, but it will be worth the trip just to have a look at the crops out in the Mallee.
Rain is forecast this week and that will not do our chances any harm as Nully are a very quick, high marking side and a slippery ball and heavy ground will help the Mighty Swans keep up with them.
Get your red gear out of the draw and head over to support the Mighty Swans. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Rain on the way
AT the time of writing, we are going to get wet, very wet if the forecast is right.
They predict 40 to 50mm locally and 50 to 70mm up in our catchments. With our weirs all being so full, life could get very interesting out here on the Riverina flood plains.
By the time you read this, you will know what we have had. See you on the flood bank. Here comes that rain to slow Nully down for us.
Donation from wind farm
THE wind farm mob, Acciona, who are going to build a wind and solar farm out on Kerri Kerri Station, just made a very generous donation to our Edward River Gardens Hostel.
Michelle from Acciona gets my notes every week and saw that our hostel was having a fundraiser.
A couple of phone calls and bang. A few grand was donated to the Edward River Gardens.
Thank you, Michelle and Acciona. It will get put to good use.
This mob has not even started to build yet. let alone make anything back on their investment in our district, But they have already started to give back. Thanks again from our district.
Grain co-op down but not out
THE Moulamein Grain Co-Op was a great idea and run very successfully for many years.
Unfortunately, due to some mismanagement and grain going missing, our grain co-op is on its knees, looking for help or a buyer.
This district’s wish is for the sites to open up this year to receive grain.
Unfortunately, once the administrators move in, things slow down. They cannot do things as quickly as farmers as they are governed by red tape and limited powers.
If you ever thought you would like to own a grain delivery depot, now is the time to go and see your bank manager and buy into what would be a very successful business run even half right.
There are a few options on the table and only time will tell how things pan out.
R U OK? night
THIS was a very well attended night with around three dozen fellows turning up. This was a surprise to me as sometimes us fellows just do not know what is good for them.
We had a couple of speakers from a mob called Wellways. You can get in touch with them by ringing 0418 053 806 or 1300 111 400.
They are only too willing to talk to you and help you out if they can.
If you do not want to talk yet, but want to get in touch with someone, their email address is Kmulloy@wellways.org
We also had a couple of local speakers tell their story of how the Black Dog has bitten them, and how it never goes away.
If you need help, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
River levels
THE Edward at Moulamein is sitting on around 4 metres (it got to around 5.7 in 2016) and around 6500 megalitre a day at the time of writing and will continue to rise.
There is over 15,000ML below Stevens Weir and still rising – 6000 of this will be going down the Niemur.
The Billabong is sending more water down, but there is only about 2000ML coming out the bottom and still only 3000ML at Conargo.
There is a bit of rain forecast this week, but there is nothing to worry about yet.
I am only guessing, but there could be another couple of foot to come without any more rain.
