Rice harvest almost set

THERE were a couple of early birds ready to put the headers into their crops but we have had dirty showers all week.

At the time of writing, further showers were forecast.

Hooker has got the sheds empty, cleaned up and ready to go.

Next week should see a bit of movement up at our sheds.

Let’s hope all the rice farmers have got their water off their crops as my definition of an April fool is anyone with water still on their rice on April 1.

It just does not dry out after that in this district.

Good luck to everyone for the upcoming harvest.

Now the water is gone off our rice, we can only hope the baldy coots that come from nowhere go back there.

Preschool yabby races

MOULAMEIN Preschool will hold its Easter yabby races on Saturday, April 8, from 9am until 1pm.

Get your nets in, there are plenty of yabbies around this year so you could get a winner.

There will also be the egg throw, egg-and-spoon races, egg decorating, jumping castle, showbags, lotto jars, barbecue, cake stall, snow cones, market stalls, raffles, vintage cars, fire brigade demonstrations and plenty more.

All of this will be followed by the Moulamein Angling Club’s duck race. The preschool is looking for supporters and has some great supporter packages out.

No donation is too big or too small.

For more information, call Hanna on 0472 904 724.

Bush sculpture

THE Moulamein gallery mob’s bush sculpture competition icoming up on June 10.

There is $1000 up for grabs for the large sculpture. But not too large as it must be able to be carried by two people and have a sturdy base.

Second prize is $500.

A $500 first prize is also up for grabs for the best small sculpture, with a $200 second prize.

All entries must be for sale, but if you want to keep your work of art, just put a good price on it.

This is no longer an acquisition sculpture competition. So, if you win, you do not lose your creation if it is worth more than a grand.

Get your scrap together and start to weld something up that looks like something, or looks like nothing. Art is whatever you want it to be.

This is just an early warning for this great event. For more details, call Joy on 0488 380 470.

Easter fishing competition

THIS is the big one for the year for Moulamein Angling Club.

As always, it will be held on Easter Sunday.

You can sign up over the Edward River opposite our wharf in town.

Drive in past the big-tree carpark.

It will cost a whole $5 for adults and $3 for kids.

You get a barbecue lunch for that as well.

There are always plenty of prizes as well as plenty of fun and Easter eggs for the kids on the day.

For more information, call Rozy on 0428 875 078.

Yoga classes

THERE has been enough interest in Moulamein to get yoga classes up and going.

They will start on Friday, May 12, from 10am until 11.15am.

There are six sessions planed and they will only cost you $20 per session.

For more information, call Deidre on 0417 276 845.

I see there is already one of our local fellows signed up.

Don’t be shy fellows, this may be just what you need to relax.

Personally, I will stick to the downward dog reaching for the bottom shelf of the beer fridge on a Friday. But that’s just me.

River levels

THE Edward is steady at about 1.3 metres and flowing at just under 1000 megalitres a day.

It looks like there could be a rise coming from Deniliquin, but it may just mean that the farmers have ordered more water and they could pump it out before it gets here.

Fishing is very quiet and all I have heard about is a few carp.

Yabbies are still going, so visitors who come up for Easter should be able to get a feed of yabbies, if nothing else.
