Let’s get on with the bridge

Moulamein Notes

A BRIDGE Too Far was an old war film I saw when I was a kid.

Our “Moulamein bridge” at Swan Hill has always reminded me of that movie. It looks like something might finally start to happen in the next few years going by the local papers.

Murray River Council, Swan Hill Council and my mate Peter Walsh have all agreed on the position of the new bridge.

My mates from the anti-bridge mob might not agree and we will be arguing for the next 50 years or so that this is not the only spot to put our new “Moulamein bridge”.

This is the only position that we will get our new bridge without another 100 years of arguing.

Suck it up, those that do not want the only bridge location that will work for our district.

If I can drive, or get driven over, our new bridge before I get too old to remember it, I will be happy.

If I have to wait for the bridge to lift, I will get out of my car and take photos on the one or two times a year that it gets lifted.

We have got the plan. Let’s just get on with it. Pick up the old bridge and bring it to our Moulamein Heritage Village.

That is where it belongs.

Football and netball winners

A Grade and B Grade had a win at Hay last weekend in the netball.

Colts had a battle but managed to get across the line. Our Mighty Magoos had a good win.

Our seniors had a hard slog. Hay was not going to give this game up right to the finish.

It was second against third. We just got up and we are still in second spot.

We have a weekend off for the King’s Birthday.

It is weird that our new King and his mother had the same birthday.

But it would take a lot of rearranging to fix up that one.

We have a game the next week and then another weekend off due to the bye weekend.

This one game in three weeks should help our injury list get back on the field. As it will every other club in our league.

Save the date

THE Moulamein Football Netball Club will have their commodity auction on Saturday, June 17 after our pride game against our mates from Ultima.

This is a great night to support your club and pick up a bargain or two.

This is the Mighty Swans’ biggest fundraiser of the year and a bloody good night out with our mates from BR&C donating their time to get as many bids as possible.

Hope to see you there.

Sculpture competition

YOU still have time to weld some scrap together for our gallery girls competition.

There is $1500 up for grabs for the large sculpture and $700 for the small sculpture.

This will all happen on Saturday.

Entries must be delivered to the gallery by 3pm Friday.

For more information, call Joy on 0488 380 470.

Rain falls

WE are looking at maybe an inch or more this week.

Send it down, Huey. Even the flooded country is starting to whither.

That is how quickly the weather forecast can change for the better.

River levels

THE Edward River has continued to rise and is now at over 2 metres and over 2000 megalitres a day.

It seems like our Edward will keep rising as there are over 750ML coming down the Billabong.

Murray cod seem to be back on the bite as I was shown some photos of a couple of rippers.

Caught on grubs, they said.

Yabbies are still going as well. Get a feed while you can.

If the cod are back on the bite. The yabbies will be first on their menu.
