Tennis nets crowd

WITH only two synthetic courts and our grass courts needing a lot of loving before they can be played on again, our tennis mob has had to run their popular competition over two evenings.

Well done to the organisers of this new teams competition. It is great to see our tennis courts used again.

The way my bowling ability is going at the moment, I might have to dust off the old tennis racquet and get my festering old body back up to playing tennis again.

If you would like to get into this great sport in Moulamein, get in touch with the organisers.

With harvest coming up, there will always be someone who cannot get there.

Moulamein races

TWO world wars could not do what COVID and last year’s floods did.

The Moulamein races will be going ahead after a three-year break on Saturday, December 9.

There are new toilets and there is a new pavilion instead of tents to hire.

Our heritage bar is still there but, unfortunately, I do not know how much longer for.

Get in early for your Christmas party at our races. It will be a great day.

Buses will be running to get you here but, more importantly, to get you back home.

After a three-year unscheduled break, this year’s races are guaranteed to be an event to remember.

Just remember to buy a raffle ticket from the Moulamein Town Fire Brigade and Rescue on the way in.

Football-netball AGM

This meeting is on Sunday at 2pm at the football-netball complex.

All positions will be declared vacant and it is up to our community who fills them.

Please support this meeting to keep the Swans going.

Edward River Gardens AGM

THIS very important meeting is on Thursday, November 30, at Edward River Gardens.

We may have one of the smallest aged care hostels in NSW but the care our residents get there would be better than most in our great country.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Ducks by the thousands

THERE is a fair bit of resowing going on at the moment because of the duck damage. Shooters can only do so much.

When it gets too dark to shoot, that is when the ducks come in. The numbers seem to be building.

My young fella has only been home for three rice seasons.

There have not been many ducks until this year. He is in a bit of a panic mode – so am.

Because of circumstances beyond my control, I do not have any guns.

I can only drive around the rice, tooting the horn and abusing the rotten sods.

We have done okay until now, but I am working on a scheme of how to scare ducks without a gun. There must be a way.

Bowls season

DIVISION 1 team had a good win on Saturday with two rinks up and one draw. Up overall.

Division 3 did not have such a good day. One rink in particular did not even get onto the scoreboard until after the cream cakes at smoko.

I am not saying who it was, but this could be one of the reasons that tennis is looking good for me at the moment. Three rinks down.

This week it is Division 1 home to our mates from Lake Boga and Division 3 is heading to Tooleybuc.

If you want to see some good bowls played, wander over to Moulamein Bowling Club for a nice cold beer and check out the Division 1 talent.

If you are over there about 3.30pm, they will sell you a ticket in our raffle.

River levels

THE Edward River has finally levelled off and is sitting at around 2100 megalitres per day and around 2.1 metres.

Fishing is still slow but the odd good one is getting caught, going by some of the giant carp that are rotting away on the banks.

Someone has had a good bite and a bit of a fight to get them in.
