Extra funds for community groups

THE sheep dog trials held in early September were well patronised with 156 dogs entered.

The trial committee would like to thank all of their sponsors for helping make this great day happen.

The catering was provided by our local organisations to keep our dog people and spectators well fed.

Due to the sheep dog trials being so successful, the three groups that catered got their incomes rounded up to $1000 each.

There was a bit of extra cash left, so our heritage committee received $500 to help them with their project.

Moulamein Tennis Club got a donation of $500 to help with the junior coaching. I am sure that was most appreciated by the children.

Preschool toy raffle

THE Moulamein Preschool is running a Christmas toy raffle.

If you would like to donate a new toy for one very lucky family to explore this Christmas, please drop the new toy off at the preschool, preferably boxed to help with the surprise for the lucky winner.

Redfin in the lake

THERE is redfin in the lake and this is great news for our fishermen, but not great news for our native fish in there.

Redfin are a great sporting fish, also good too eat.

But they are an evasive fish and will eat anything, including smaller redfin.

The photo I saw of the fish caught was a good size. I can only hope that it was the only one in there.

Catfish, cod, yellers and our small body fish would be much more suited to our Moulamein Lake. Only time will tell.

Extra flows in Billabong Creek

DO not panic, it is not like last year’s extra flows that almost put our town under water.

They are putting an environmental flow down our creek to hopefully get the native fish up and breeding.

They will be increasing the flow from 600 megalitres per day, up to 900 ML by December, and after a week of that level, they will slowly drop it down again.

Billabong Creek has one of the highest densities of cod per square metre of water in our great country. It also joins the Murrumbidgee to the Murray to get these fish back into both systems.

Edward River Gardens AGM

THE very important Edward River Gardens annual general meeting will be happening on Thursday next week at Edward River Gardens.

We may have one of the smallest hostels in NSW, but the care our residents get there would be better than most in our great country.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

Bowls season

THE Division 1 bowls team had a good win on Saturday at home to our mates from Lake Boga.

Division 3 travelled over to our mates from Tooleybuc.

Everyone likes a feed at smoko. With a belly full of cream cakes and sangas, we managed two rinks up, one down. Up overall.

This week, Division 1 is away to our mates from Swan Hill. No cream cakes there.

Division 3 is at home to our mates from Lake Boga.

Do not forget your smoko team. You can cut back a bit as there is only one team to feed.

With the competition between Division 1 and 3 for smoko, the cream cakes just got bigger and better every week.

This week we can relax and just feed us and one other team.

River levels

THE Edward River has levelled off and is still sitting at about 2100 ML per day and about 2.1m.

Fishing is still slow but the odd good one is getting caught.

Going by some of the giant carp that are rotting away on the banks, someone has had a good bite and a bit of a fight to get them in.
