Heath doubles up for memorable feat

Our Eveready Battery of our Moulamein Footy-Netball Club really did his bit for our Mighty Swans this year.

For some reason only known to Heath, he pulled on the boots for our Mighty Magoos as well as our Seniors for every game this year.

He wasn’t just sitting on the bench warming it up like most of us did when we played two games.

He pretty well played the full game in both grades.

To get up and win both grades has never been done in our club before.

I do not know if this has ever been done in any club before.

Heath managed to take out the best and fairest in the Mighty Magoos, as well as the Seniors.

Well done, Heath.

You have done our club proud.

Operation Christmas child

This is Edie’s last year of running this great project.

Edie and her mates pack boxes of toys and gifts to send overseas to less fortunate children every Christmas.

This is your last chance to help Edie out as it is getting a bit too much for her.

If you would like to make a donation, the wow items are things like a soccer ball with a pump, dolls, skipping ropes, toys that light up, toy cars or shoes.

Simple things like any sort of clothing, pens, pencils, colouring books, toothbrushes and caps.

Virtually all toys our kids take for granted would be appreciated.

No lollies or food or any second-hand stuff.

If all items could be delivered by October 13 so they can be packed on Friday, October 25 by Edie and her offsiders.

Remember, nothing gets shipped for free so donations to cover the freight would also be appreciated if you cannot work out what kids would want.

If you would like to help Edie pack her last Operation Christmas card gifts, there will be a packing day on Friday, October 25.

The urn will be on and morning tea and lunch will be provided.

For more information, please ring Edie on 0433429199.

Pigeon update

For those of you that have been following the Moulamein Bowlers pigeon entries in the big race, you will know that they started with six.

Crippa went missing early with no umpires out there in the real world to look after him.

They had their first real race last week.

Of the 1100 or so pigeons that took off, only around 900 made it back to the loft.

Some would have got lost, some would have been taken by hawks and eagles and there would have been a few that just said: “Stuff this racing crap.

Let’s just spend the rest of our lives pooping on statues.”

Unfortunately, one of the pigeons that went missing was Express Post owned by a few girls that work in a post office.

We always worried about this one going missing when the pressure was on.

Our Moulamein Bowlers still have four pigeons left in the big race.

Let’s hope one of them gets up.

If you would like a piece of the action next year, pull on the red and white for our Bowling Club and you can buy an egg for a s—load of money to be in the syndicate.

If there is room.

Pennant bowls starts in three weeks

We need more at training as the season is about to start.

Moulamein could be a bit of a powerhouse in our league this year with the top two teams going to the Premier League.

Murray Downs and Racecourse have joined this new league, so their division 2 teams become their division 1 teams.

The 10 teams in division 2 and 3 will combine for one round to play each other once.

Then, the top five will become division 2 and the bottom five will become division 3 for the last round and the finals.

The way I played for our mates from Wakool, I might be able to get a game in division 1 for a week or so if they need a bus driver.

The offers are still coming in from Wakool to pull the green on.

Could never happen.

Red and white for me until I join the old bowlers in the sky, or down under. I reckon I would know more bowlers down there.

Please check the championship board and keep your games up to date.

One week to burn your timber

On October 1 the fire season will start. This means no burning off without a permit.

No burning of solid fuel, which means wood piles.

If you have that pile of trees you pushed out to put the new fence in or if you just picked up a heap of sticks to tidy a paddock up, then go to the RFS Notify To Burn site to tell them what you are doing and where.

Ring a few mates, grab a few stubbies and get the piles burned before the end of the month or they will still be there next year.

Photo competition

Just another reminder to get your cameras out to get a shot for the Moulamein Art Gallery’s annual photo competition.

Entries close at 3pm on Thursday, October 3.

The open section is “Image within an image”. I think I have an idea for that one.

The black and white section is “Isolated Objects”.

Could have been me and Harro after losing the Koolamein Cup.

The kids section is “Fantasy”.

There are more than $700 in prizes up for grabs.

Get clicking and see if you can beat me.

River levels

Our Edward has continued to rise and is now over 1100 megs a day and around 1.4 metres.

There is still plenty of water below Stevens Wier, so we will have these levels for a while yet.

The fish are back from what I have been hearing.

I will know more after this weekend as we have a few campers coming. If you want a feed of yellers and want the honour of putting a cod back in the off season, drop a line in and you will be rewarded for your patience.

My grandkids have discovered fishing, but all we have caught is carp.

A lot of fun, but they taste like s—.

Let’s hope when the campers come here next week we can catch a fish they can eat.

Yabbies are still off the menu.

I do not know where they have gone.

Went off in February and haven’t come back.
