OUR Moulamein Men’s Shed are collecting batteries again to help fund the stocking of rivers with fish.
This is a great project run by the “old fellers” at our Men’s Shed.
If you have just a couple of batteries you can drop them off at their shed in town.
If you have a heap.
Put them on a pallet and give Noel a ring on 0447 541 200 and he will organise to have them picked up.
The fish are coming back into our rivers but these fellers will help bring them back faster.
They have been trying to turn lead into gold for centuries without success.
Our Men’s Shed can turn lead into fish to feed the multitudes.
Turbo chooks back
I DO not know how they know when it is rice planting time but the scouts have turned up.
Only a couple of dozen so far but once these scouts send the word back.
They may turn up in their hundreds again.
Only time will tell.
The big race
THE Moulamein Bowling Club pigeons have had their big race.
Of the six starters only three made it through to the big event.
The other three decided that they would rather fly around pooping on statues than stay in the racing game.
Of the 1,600-odd pigeons that started in this giant coop about 500-odd were in the big race.
The rest went missing in the trial races.
At last report about 130 got home in the Big Race.
None of them were our Bowling Club Birds.
There are a few theories why so many went missing.
The effects of the Southern Aurora is one theory.
My opinion is they just got randy.
It is spring after all and they decided to set up nest and poop on statues for the rest of their lives.
That racing game is just hard work.
I think the first 50 birds home got a payout.
The winner got 120 grand.
There is talk of going again next year with the Moulamein Bowling Club Syndicate.

Moulamein Show and Shine
THIS was a great day.
More than 100 old shiny things out there on our Peter Jackson Oval.
Plus a few bald heads.
Due to work commitments in the morning and our first game of bowls in the afternoon.
I did not get to see much of it but I heard a good report about the steak sanger’s.
Better than Hay Footy steak sanga’s was the report and we all know how good the steak sanga’s are at Hay.
I think a great day was had by all, and it could be bigger and better next year.
Pennant bowls off and running
WE had Division 1 away at Nyah and Division 2-3 home to Balranald.
Divison 1 had a battle all day but ended up two rinks up, one rink down.
Up by 17 overall.
Our Division 2-3 team was looking good at smoko and they were up by six overall.
But the cream cakes got them and they ended up three rinks down.
I think we are both away this week to Swan Hill.
Do not mention the cream cakes when you go over there.
It only gets you into trouble.
But I do not think they should affect us too much at smoko.
River levels
OUR Edward has continued to rise and is now just below 2,300 megs a day and just below 2.2 metres.
There is still plenty of water below Stevens Weir so we will have these levels for a while yet.
The fish are still biting in numbers around Moulamein.
With the weather being so good it could be a great time to load your boat up and spend a day on our local rivers.
Just remember, it is closed cod season and if you are fortunate enough to catch a catfish.
They are protected and must be returned to the water ASAP.
Shrimp and worms seem to be the favoured bait last week.
This week it could be anything.
