Piece of history returned

I have been given a bit of history of our little town that was acquired back on Good Friday in 1975.

The alleged owner of this piece of history has decided that it should be returned to its original town with a ripper story to go with it of where it has been and what it has seen in its travels.

Unfortunately, this supposed to happen at our Good Friday bowls tournament this year, marking 50 years since it was acquired.

So, I cannot give you any more information than that until then.

The now owner of the item would like to return it on the day of the 50-year ownership. But, if he cannot get to our tournament, he has asked me to do it.

Our Moulamein Heritage Village has already said they will find somewhere to hang it, with the story. Stay tuned for more information when the time comes.

Men’s health night

I will just leave this note in until it happens on Saturday, February 15, as I think it is very important.

We are having an educational night at our Moulamein Bowling Club to point out the bleeding obvious to our men in our district that they have to start looking after themselves.

We are not getting any younger fellers. It will be a bit like the old sportsman’s night, with big names like AFL Legend’s Brian Taylor and Matt Richardson, as well as other speakers. Even though it is about men’s mental and physical health, women are encouraged and welcome to attend.

Who is going to remind the silly old bugger of what he has been told if it is not his wife, partner or daughter. This promises to be an entertaining as well as a great information night.

All this for only $10, with the entry fee to be donated to the Movember Charity. There will be a bus running from Barham for a small charge.

If we can get a bit more funding, we may be able to organise a bus from other towns. For more information ring Courtney on 0429646942.

Both bowls teams at home

We lost another one of our bowlers this week when long-time bowler John Harrison passed away. Sympathy to his family as well as all of his mates. Because of the heat rule last week, we all kicked off at 9am.

Divi one was at home to Racecourse. They managed two rinks up, one down. Up overall to keep top spot. Divi 2 went over to Balranald to play the top of the table. If we could beat them, we still had a mathematical chance at the four.

They joked about laying down, so they could play us in the finals. But they reckoned we might beat them, so that is where the jokes ended. One rink up, two rinks down. Down overall. We actually got some cream cakes over there.

We haven’t played Balranald at home for many years as we were never in the right division. Thank you, ladies. This week is the last round of home-and-away games. Both teams will be at home if you want to see some good bowling.

Divi 1 will have Lake Boga and Divi 2 will have Swan Hill. Don’t forget your smoko teams. Because it is our last home-and-away game for the season, we invite all of our bowlers for the season as well as our opposition for a bit of a feed afterwards.

All bowlers welcome. We should be starting at the normal time, but with global warming, sorry, climate change it may get hot in our Australian summer, so we may have to start at 9am.

Not many coots yet

I do not know what Kate has done with her coots. But so far, I have only heard of one crop with a few in it.

I’m sure they would have been encouraged to move on. No doubt they will turn up before the season ends. We will all have to encourage them to move on when it happens.

Memorial service

I do not normally put this kind of thing in my notes but without our Moulamein School Wongi getting printed because of the holidays, no one knows what is going on.

There will be a memorial service for our mate Kerry Aston on Monday, February 10, at our Moulamein Bowling Club at 2pm.

River levels

Our Edward is still steady at just under 2100 megs a day and around 2.05 metres. If you were going to go fishing, now would be a good time.

I expect the Edward to start dropping next week as the need for irrigation water increases.
