We are in the grand final

OUR Moulamein Divi 1 has a week off before they play in the grand final in a fortnight. We had to play top-of-the-table Murray Downs on Saturday at the Swan Hill Bowls Club.

It was a tight game. Nothing in it at smoko, but our team was up. The cream cakes got a mention, the sangas were great and then back out to battle. With no cream cake effect we should have been OK, but Murray Downs had different ideas and came back at our team, taking the lead for a while.

Our team fought back and it came down to the last end of the day. One rink down, two rinks up. Up by three overall. Well done, Divi 1.

We play the winners out of Murray Downs and Lake Boga back at Swan Hill in a fortnight. Swan Hill is taking a bit of credit for our win. They reckon if they dished up cream cakes, our mighty Moulamein side would have faltered.

Come over in two weeks and help cheer our team on.

Moulamein tennis team in the finals

IN their first year of pennant tennis ever for the town, our players have made it into the finals.

They have to travel every week as we do not have enough courts in Moulamein to play a home match. Well done and good luck next weekend.

Men’s health night a ripper

THERE were more than 160 front up to our men’s health night, dash sportsman’s night. Thank you to the counterfeit China, John Harp, for his talk on depression and how you should look after your mates.

AFL greats Matthew Richardson and Brian Taylor put on a fabulous show and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. All who attended were well fed and watered.

We needed $5K to put a machine in our club for a month, so Richo and BT got on their phones. They organised a day out at the Dreamtime Game (Ess v Rich) with a few extra privileges and bang… more than $5K was bid and we have our machine. When I have details of what this machine actually does, I will give you more information.

Well done to all those that organised this tremendous event. Who knows, we may have saved a life or two.

Coots are back

WE do not know where Kate’s coots go when they are not here, but they always seem to be able to find their way back. The chopper has already been buzzing around trying to move them on. So far so good out our way.

But it was like that last year and then we ended up with thousands that we had to encourage to move on. If Kate still reads my notes, could she please have a word with her coots to get them to go back where they came from or they might get hurt.

More water

OUR Mighty Murrumbidgee has jumped up 2% to go to 37% of what we own. Because of the amount of carry over, the NSW Murray has increased 48% to a ripper 110% of what they own.

This is a great result for our irrigators. But I still feel sorry for our Crow Eating mates, they will not be happy that they are still on only 100% of what they started with and get every year.

They will not be happy.

Rice coming in quick

This year could be a very early start to our rice harvest because of the near perfect finish. Early crops are being drained now. I keep saying there could be some yield records broken this year.

That is if Kate’s coots leave it alone. As far as I can gather, with the limited information that I am allowed to get, our rice sheds are empty and Hooker and his offsiders are busy cleaning and dusting the sheds out ready for this year’s harvest, which could be the earliest ever.

That is no easy task as they have to get more than 60,000 tonnes of storage up to food standard conditions.

River levels

Our Edward has taken a big drop below Stephens Weir. Maybe this is because of the increase in allocation.

It dropped from over 1100 megs a day to just over 800. Moulamein is enjoying a rise at the moment up to over 1400 megs a day and around 1.6m.

This will be short-lived. Go fishing now and remember to check your boats and pumps next week.
